Morons. Having a decent "Dad" in play, even if he's not biopapa, would lessen the importance of those pie slices. Mental health? Having a father figure watching you, taking interest, calling you on your teen bullshit, talking to you about things bothering you... Helps enormously with mental health.

Too much violent screen time? Dad needs to intervene and again, talk things through.

Easy access to murder weapons? Again, where's Dad?

Movies and TV and smart phones = all modern media.

And once again, where's Dad, to try and ease the angst of youth?

I imagine the talking heads just don't want to tackle the no Dad subject, as it brings in feminism's last decade of squeezing men out of their families, denying their social angst, denying support for males in general. Nope, don't want to kick that sleeping dog.

Fatherlessness is bad for all kinds of reasons, but let's not jump to conclusions. Sociologists generally do not find a significant correlation between fatherlessness and propensity to mass shootings when normalizing for household income and early exposure to violence.

It's like saying that "eating food purchased with food stamps causes mass shootings."

Yes, there's a correlation, but there's no evidence for causality.

The united states is squarely in the middle when it comes to family integrity metrics: Ratio of children raised in two family households, indices of childhood exposure to divorce, etc. Other rich countries with much worse rates of divorce and single-parenthood all do way, way, way better than us on rates of gun violence.

The only reason there are articles being written about this is because a senator from Utah speculated out loud about it, there have been no reputable studies linking these two features.

At least he touched on Mental Health. John Oliver decided to showcase a girl, play an interview from a girl about cops dancing in school, and a boy who wrote his name... ended the episode with "cops in schools are not the answer to school shootings" ... because a 25 minute episode about school shooting doesn't even mention boys struggles, over punishment and lack of help is.
