Men aren’t going to be there for women in traditional ways and most feminists I know are losing their $hit over it.

So a group of men can start a company from scratch, build it over years, hit the threshold of 250 employees and instantly have to put 40% of the board roles into female hands or face penalties. Nice. Another disincentive to innovation and expansion. Can’t wait to see what happens when companies with majority female boards have to hire men to meet the quota.

They will drop the quota then and make up some BS excuse that this is discriminatory or equality has been achieved. HOW VERY CONVENIENT.

Same thing happened in Sweden with quotas in education.

Most businesses women tend to create are smaller and tend to be more towards social stuff. Men tend to create more technical or problem solving business, so since people are willing to throw money at the problems for those problems to be solved, it means more of men started companies tend to be financially viable.

So both men and women create companies, those companies tend to fill different niches. It's just weird that those groups look just at companies which were started by men and expect that women are going to be in the executive suite, when most of those companies promote most of the time either based on experience, qualifications, impression created of individual upon others or simply who worked the longest...

Entire logic is wrong. They start with the wrong premise, accept only a biased information and then draw wrong conclusions which satisfies their wish to feel victims.

You should look a bit deeper than that. It's not that men are better at math or science. Men have been encouraged from youth to pursue STEM careers while girls were told to focus on motherhood or more caregiver roles like nurses or preschool teachers.

[–]SharqPhinFtw 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What kind of encouragement? The one where STEM happens to be the only place you have to do things objectively so teachers can't arbitrarily grade them lower? (Which they do, don't argue that). Or maybe the part where 99% of workplace deaths are men? God am I so encouraged. Or maybe the 10 out of 11 gender based scholarships going to women while they make up 60%+ of higher education population in unis.

You misunderstand. A board that is 100% female is more than 40% female, that meets the law.

“From 30 June 2026 large companies operating in the EU will have to ensure a share of 40% of the “underrepresented sex” – usually women – among non-executive directors.”

?

[–]dumwitxh 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They will have to split the companies into different legal structures.I imagine, because this is bullshit

[–]equalityworldwide 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Board members should be objective third parties. You shouldn't have just your founders on the board.

[–]NutsLikeMelons 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And if the best candidates are all objective men, and you already have them, then what?

[+]PaulLefontaone -24 points-23 points-22 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No. That business of 250 people would have 4 years to get 40 percent of their higher ups women.

[–]NutsLikeMelons 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is still government mandating control of a company be taken away from those who built it. Take gender out of it and it’s still abhorrent.

There are industries such as construction where women make up 2 % of labor. But now they are 40 % of the board. How is this acceptable. We are entering a very unhealthy period in the west. One and only one ideology is doing this.

[–]NutsLikeMelons 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great point, but 40% female leadership can advocate for the 98% male workforce to get their paid menstrual leave!

[–]motosandguns 20 points21 points22 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Easy fix. Trans counts now. Might be worth going trans for a board seat…

[–]krittganp 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In some countries you can legally change gender without hormones or surgery.

[–]equalityworldwide -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

There are larger reasons why there are less women in construction.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yes, like the pay is low and danger is high. So we let men do it, its not they are humans or something.

[–]equalityworldwide 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No. The larger reason is that there's an advantage to being physically larger and stronger in construction. Also because the industry has been male dominated, sexism is extremely high. Have you ever worked on a construction site?

[–]Fearless-File-3625 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There are many jobs in construction, most of them don't require Hercules level strength. Strong and independent modern women can easily do them. If you say otherwise you are a misogynistic piece of shit that thinks women are inferior to men.

There is as much sexism in male dominated construction industry as in male dominated corporate boards. That's why we have quotas in corporate boards. Similarly we need 60% quotas for women in construction industry.

[–]equalityworldwide 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Forcing people to do undesireable jobs isn't equality. People who take construction jobs typically have low education and are willing to do manual labour for long hours in return for decent pay. The reason quotas were implemented for board of directors is because major decisions about businesses were being made mostly by men. These high-level decisions influence the economy and media which in turn influences society.

Yeah bitch, that's why I said in my first. No need to act like women are holier than thou and give bullshit reasons. There is one and only one reason why there is quotas in corporate boards and not on construction sites. Thank you coming around, unintended may it be.

[–]Beaniifart 30 points31 points32 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Holy shit. They don't give a fuck about women being able to work the jobs men have, literally only the top level, highest paying jobs. Pretty much every manual labour or dangerous job is dominated by men regardless of pay, but guess they're turning their eye for those lmao.

There is no "glass ceiling". Women have not only an equal opportunity to join boards but are favored, because this pressure on companies has been going on for at least a decade. The only reasons are lack of suitability and lack of interest. Very few women are interested in sitting in boards, and out of the very few who do think of it, not many have the relevant track record. A glass ceiling means that given two equally suitable candidates, systematically the man will be chosen - this is not in any way the reality, but the exact opposite - because there are so few women both wanting to be in a board AND having the relevant experience, when two equally suitable options are considered THE WOMAN IS SYSTEMATICALLY PREFERRED. The exact OPPOSITE of "a glass ceiling". And the reason nobody objects to the ridiculous 40% EU-defined criterion is that there are no sanctions, and there are no sanctions because everybody knows you won't be able to find as much as 10% even if you were willing to castrate relevant candidates to call them "women". There are simply almost no women interested in this.

And by the way, there is no sense in feminism's obsession with boards. Board members are only advisors, they don't have much power or responsibility, it's mostly for choosing a CEO every few years, and seeing that the company is monitored financially. Many boards of small companies don't get paid, it's just being listed somewhere as "board member" and getting a call every few months to sign some recommendation letter for a grant or what not or get the company's CEO a meeting with some connections you have.

Feminists look at the car and think "wow it must be so powerful and full of status to be a board member" - nonsense, these people got their car from their regular job, not from sitting on some board of a biotech spin-off that barely pays the lab technician. It's their accumulated career outside the board (as an investor, or CEO, or a professor, or an elected official and so on) that makes them relevant for basically advising the management - it's a team of advisors, not of mighty rulers who control the world. Which is part of why women don't care about boards and don't want to join them - you give more than you get, in most cases.

Of course feminists are focused as always in a biased manner on the 1% of boards - those of gigantic corporations. But most boards are of small-medium companies and of early-stage spin-offs and you give more than you get in such boards which are the majority. To get 40% you'll need to convince women to want to give a little of their time just in order to contribute for the development of a small enterprise without a material benefit - please feminists, tell us how to make women do that?

[–]HoneyHoneyOhHoney 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Did you read the article? Without the rule the uk was almost at 40%

[–]CawlinAlcarz 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah... I don't have a problem wtih women holding 40% of board positions... I have a problem with governments mandating it.

[–]autotldr 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 76%. (I'm a bot)

The EU has agreed that companies will face mandatory quotas to ensure women have at least 40% of seats on corporate boards.

As well as the legally binding target, companies could also be fined for failing to recruit enough women to their non-executive boards and see board appointments cancelled for non-compliance with the law.

The European Commission made its first proposal for a 40% quota on women on boards in 2012, but the plan was blocked by big member states including Germany and the UK.In the UK, mandatory quotas were opposed by the then coalition Conservative-Liberal Democrat government, which preferred a voluntary approach led by Lord Mervyn Davies.
