I've been in a very similar situation last week: a woman I know whose husband leaves on long shifts (although not military) was insisting to see me while he was away. She said it was only to hang out casually but in the end she did want the D (I rejected her because I know the guy and I like him). I dont think she planned on wanting the D, she just felt like it.
