They start with the assumption that men are oppressors, women are oppressed, then use that as an excuse to ignore all the evidence to the contrary.

One commenter mentioned how it would not be appropriate to say "Not all men" in response to a woman venting about a 'patriarchy' issue as that would invalidate her emotions.

And to be honest I can understand that..
But I would hope that equally if men started generalizing women to 'vent' then the same logic should apply and women equally shouldn't get upset at being generalized because they would be "invalidating the man's emotions"

But we of course all know how this song and dance goes..

The top comment was about how you should not correct people making bigoted and false statements were they negatively generalize men, because you should validate their feelings.This is dangerous logic to follow in my opinion.

Validating their feelings would make them feel as though their statement is valid, and could potentially lead to them harboring hatred towards men in general.Now imagine if we did this to everybody and what a hateful society that would lead to.There would be a bunch of people who feel like their hatred towards another group is justified, because no one ever corrected their delusional way of thinking, but instead fed into their delusion.

Take a sentence that makes negative generalizations about men and change “men” to “black people” and see the reaction. Suddenly “not all black people” seems like a rather tepid reaction to maligning an entire demographic group.

Do not validate emotions that are bigotted. Just because the old woman is really fearful about crime doesn't mean she should be able to claim all black people are criminals. I don't care if it is rude when their emotional outlet is equally rude.
