People that are stable and secure with themselves are fine. People that value themselves based on looks will have a breakdown when the looks go away, regardless of gender.

Some people are in their prime when they get older. Maybe they didn't take care of themselves or learn their favorite styles or the best hair to frame their face. Some who are divorcees go on a spree of losing weight, going to the salon, getting a better care regimen and end up being hotter than they were in their twenties.

But it's all relative. Their dating pool might reduce for some types of men and actually expand for other types of men.

The woman in your example is not common. Sure a lot of people struggle with insecurities and social pressures regarding aging but most won't be openly hostile like the type your post describes.

My mom could’ve been a model.

She was severely mentally ill. I suspect borderline personality disorder. Sexual abuse as a child. All she had was her looks. She was a single mother when she met my dad. She married my dad and cheated on him and destroyed him mentally.

Her drug use eventually caught up to her. Now she has a beer belly and she has lung cancer and she looks far older than she is. But she still has that “pick me” way of interacting with men. She will always be a pick me. She will always be a damsel in distress who makes stupid decisions and expects men to take care of her.

Now she has what I believe is early-onset alcohol induced Alzheimer’s.

It depends on how insecure they are. A woman who has made her whole personality being hot is likely to become bitter and openly competitive with younger or more attractive older women. And it’s not just aging, also weight gain. I was the fat friend and I lost weight while my hot skinny friends started gaining weight, and it was clear that they felt a type of way about it. They used to compliment me all the time when I was fat and then when I became skinny it was like they seemed sad when they would compliment me. One friend in particular would change her outfit into something more frumpy after seeing what I was wearing. Another friend started taking weird jabs at me anytime there are men around, even if it was just our boyfriends. People complimented me a lot especially when I first lost weight and my friends would seem genuinely annoyed and would try to change the subject. But I wasn’t that surprised because these friends in particular are extremely insecure. And now they constantly fish for compliments and validation or are overly sexual around guys and it comes off so desperate and awkward. I think about how much worse it will be once the wrinkles start coming in now that we’re approaching 30.

Really sad. Especially since she's my mother. She was really pretty, I saw some old photos of her recently and was shocked at the change. But she smokes like a chimney since she was 20.

If "sex in the city" is anything to go by, they lament society's change and recall a time when people used to hook up in the Supermarket, and they conclude that women don't need men because women provide everything they need to themselves now.

So its all rather non-copernican, with the idea that they haven't changed and they are still beautiful, but rather it's society that has changed around them.

They become Karen’s. Used to living life on easy mode and having people give them special treatment and reaping the benefits of the halo effect.

To us, the Karen’s yelling in the restaurant seem woefully out of touch and self-unaware but to them, they have lived their entire youth being treated like they are special, have an amazing personality and are deserving of special treatment and have not yet had the insight that this was not literally true but true conditionally to the extent that they were hot.

Thus they act as if this privilege still applies to them thinking it is not conditional while simultaneously seeming irrational to those watching because they obviously no longer meet those conditions.

Kind of sad, actually. I had a girlfriend about 8 years ago that was a bombshell. I saw her recently and she's still attractive "for her age." Definitely. But, she just looks like a tired version of her old self. She's still single,too. So, I think it's a wrap for her at this point.

One of my exes broke down crying and drunk messaged me a few times complaining that guys don't hit on her at the bar anymore at 40.

I honestly feel sad for them. Completely seriously. Nature gives them pretty much everything they need to succeed in life at 13 for free, but then takes most of it away less than 20 years later on average. I think the sexual revolution has been a net negative for women's happiness because their squander their power on not settling down until they lose most of it and then it's too late. It turns out that tens of thousands of years of experience distilled into thing traditional customs and religion that push women married young enough to have kids wasn't purely for the sake of oppressing them, but the older wiser people saving the young and dumb from themselves.

I'm seeing this up close and personal with a good friend of mine (never dated, but she was very hot).

Her whole identity was / is wrapped up in her appearance. She'd do bikini calendars. Blonde, big fake boobs, tan, uses her sexuality (not sex) to get what she wants frequently.

When I met her, she was already in her mid 30's but still very attractive. She partied, a lot, and all the years of sun began to take their toll.

She's now approaching mid 40's and she's descending into a rabbit hole of constantly setting very desperate thirst traps on social media while using embarrassingly blatant IG filters to erase her age.

She used to date people I knew, and it always ended up with her doing some bat-shit crazy behavior to cause the other (less attractive) perrson to end it with her.

She frequently posts herself partying with guys I know for a fact she'd never have been caught dead with before because they are paying for everything and making her feel worshipped again.

In any case, it's fucking sad and even a bit scary sometimes.

Probably unpopular, maybe it's because I was raised by women, some who have battled various mental health issues (as I have), but when I see shit like how Anne Heche just went down, forgotten, broken and seemingly hopeless, I hate this world.

The same shit happens to men all the time (I know), but the phenomenon of human disposability seems even more stark when it comes to a formerly famous / attractive woman.
