Idk if anyone has ever done this but I've been searching up the popular statistics of TRP and trying to find the original sources and it's a lot harder than it should be. I also find that lots of different stats are getting lumbered together when they come from completely different studies with different methodologies.

For instance, I can't find the "90% of college educated women file for divorce" statistic anywhere. I looked at the Rosenfeld 2015 study and it's not in there. If anything that study echoes what other studies have said - college-educated couples are less likely to divorce than non-college-educated ones.

Anyway I heard this 90% statistic from a JustPearlyThings short and it kinda enrages me that:

  1. They don't cite exactly where the stat came from (and I don't mean a quote in an article/book - I mean the original research paper)

  2. Nobody listening on these podcasts ever really pushes back and asks them to explain where the statistic came from and whether the study is adequately robust
