In the UK at least.

In most places, GPs only doing phone appointments and might call patients in person if they decide it's important.

My sister had a breast cancer scare and she was not only given an emergency appointment face to face, she was also referred to a specialist quickly.

I have had prostate cancer symptoms for a while, but doctor refused DRE check in person saying they didn't have capacity and to wait and watch if things get worse. They did get worse but still no DRE. Eventually an abnormal blood test but he was still reluctant to refer me to a urologist. Now with advanced prostate cancer symptoms, they are looking at referring me.

Same GP surgery as my sister.

I know this is just one case but I have heard of this happening to others as well.
