I've seen this talking point come up so incredibly often both on reddit and with female family members and friends in real life.

Almost every time they go to the doctor, they have an experience where the doctors downplays their pain or their symptoms and sends them home without doing any real checks for underlying conditions. While I totally sympathize with them and understand their frustration, they are absolutely convinced that it only happens to them because they are a woman and that if they were a man the doctor would have taken their concerns seriously.

I guess I can't speak for anyone else here, but I really do not think this is the case. I'm not of course excusing this lack of diligence on behalf of healthcare professionals, but my experience is that this happens to men just as much. It's a universal failing of the healthcare industry, not sexist bias. And frankly it's really frustrating to be told by someone who is just making blind assumptions that doctors take my issues more seriously than theirs.

Personally almost every time I go to the doctor they just want talk to me for 3 minutes, tell me im not experiencing what im experiencing and/or its nothing without running any tests whatsoever and just give me tylenol.

One time I had such blinding neck pain that I couldn't sit up or lie down on my own without crying. The doctor refused to help me lie down for examination and just told me "it shouldn't hurt that bad". YEAH THATS WHY IM HERE.

Also, this kind of behavior by doctors delayed a cancer diagnosis by multiple years. I was warned to watch out for X symptoms due to a ~20% chance to get cancer due to another condition. Had said symptoms. Was promptly ignored by every medical professional I talked to about it. Years later, finally found someone who cared enough to check and yep, it was cancer.

Side note: All this talk from the healthcare industry about catching things before they become huge issues. But how the hell are you supposed to do that when they just dismiss you and send you home telling you its nothing?
