I've had success with witty, spur-of-the-moment humor. Of course if you're 'telling jokes' you're not even going to make them laugh (unless they do it to be polite) never mind build rapport. So-called humorists are rarely tolerable, let alone funny.

A woman's perception of how funny a man is is based on how alpha he is. If a guy is alpha he can do any small thing trying to be funny and make her start giggling uncontrolled. If he's beta there's not much he can do to make her laugh.

I kinda get the feeling that a lot of guys are always seeking evidence to validate an opinion that women are bad, dishonest, etc.

The girls I've met are men with pussies. Humor definitely matters, everything matters. Looks, status, and resources aren't quite so crazy-important. To buy into that is to go all 'sour grapes' and believe in a scapegoat instead of facing reality.

Every confident and fun person I've ever met were "funny". They all had wit and a sense of humor. I would also categorize them as "funny". However, they aren't funny because they are clowns. They are funny because they express themselves, like messing around, and are confident in what they say.

Totally two different types of "funny".

I'll have to be the unpopular opinion here and say that I don't think Norm's experience explains most people's experience.

Humour is really hard to pull off correctly and it's probably taken Norm quite a while to develop his voice (a voice that even fully developed is not for everyone). I would imagine that when he was in high school his brand of humour could very easily have come off as being 'just weird'.

If the majority of women don't respond to your jokes, it's more likely that you just aren't funny than no woman has a sense of humour. Most people can't pull off being 'the funny guy', so if you're not the funny guy then be something else instead of insisting your're funny and that the problem is no one else gets you. That is just pulling the wool over your own eyes.

I remember when I was in high school we had a guy who looked a little bit like Chris Farley. Very overweight, sloppy dresser, etc and he always managed to date girls who were among the most popular and beautiful in our school. They said yes because he was genuinely hilarious and his talent made him very popular with everyone in the school and the girls wanted to date the guy who was funny and popular and always had a crowd of people around him, despite the fact that he was fat and unattractive.

Some women do like funny guys, but you have to be self-aware and actually know if you're funny or not. It's not going to make you any funny to blame other people for not finding you funny. Just my own opinion.

On the contrary, I think humor is VERY attractive to women because it demonstrates intelligence. 1: Intelligence is benificial to survival 2: Humor is a good signal of intelligence as good humor requires high amount of intelligence

1+2= 3: Good sense of humor indicates that the person has good survival potential.

4: Hypothetically in a population assume there are women who prefer men with good sense of humor and women who are not particularly interested.

5: Intelligence is a heritable trait, therefore good humor is a heritable trait too.

6: Women who mate with men who have good sense of humor will have intelligent offspring. Intelligent offspring have better chance of survival and reproduction than unintelligent offspring.

7: Therefore, overtime, females who prefer mates with high degree of humor will have more descendants and women who are indifferent to this may be eliminated from the gene pool.

Conclusion: It is possible that preference for mates with a good sense of humor has been hardwired into the female brain by evolution.

Steve Carell and Ricky Gervais play the same role in "the office" and both are funny to women. Steve Carell is a beta good hearted boss while Ricky Gervais is an alpha dark triad. The difference is Ricky Gervais has fan pages of women ready to sleep with him and Steve Carell doesn't.

Being attractive has nothing to do with funniness for women. If a guy has a pretty face and zero personality-I'm out. In an instant. Being funny is the sexiest thing to me and amps up a guys' attractiveness, ten fold. The part about being funny isn't in the jokes themselves, but the presentation. Anyone can rattle off a joke, but what makes it funny is the delivery; the animated look on a guys' face when he's confident and KNOWS that he's about to make you piss yourself. For me, my SO is one of the funniest people I've ever met because his humor gels with mine so completely. He's not a Brad Pitt or DiCaprio or whatever. He's an average joe with a presence and humor that makes me melt. Women love humor and funny guys. Yeah some bitches are shallow and giggle at the thickheaded beauties, but stop grouping the dumbass minority with majority of good women who actually enjoy your company.

They do care if you're funny. Being funny requires a higher "consciousness", like a higher level of communication. It is something that few guys have, therefore it is attractive. It is also on the opposite end of the spectrum when compared to awkwardness and insecurity. I've never seen a funny, insecure person.

But I get what you're saying. In many cases, it's just bullshit. Girls will just giggle at your shitty joke because they're attracted to you and want to let you know it. It might also be a competitive thing where girls try to show the other women nearby that "this man is MY man" by laughing at his jokes.

Well, funny as like being a clown or entertainer for other people isnt actually funny. It's attention/validation seeking and weak.

On the other hand amused mastery and cocky-funny is funny, too, and it is not weak. Because you are doing it for no one else's but your pleasure.

Key point: Don't be "funny" because you think other people might be entertained or like you for that, instead just entertain yourself with jokes. It expresses confidence and shows that you value yourself more than others.
