Talk with them face to face. Try to get a feeling for them.

I wanted my lawyer to be an a hole and that's what I got. I wanted someone to tell me the truth and be ruthless when it was required.

My mediator was court appointed, so no real input there.

Hey OP, one suggestion is to go on avvo.com and look for highly rated family law attorneys and go from there. Like someone already said, you need someone who can fight for you but also tell you what you want is unreasonable. Some things are worth not fighting for just to get the process over with.

Find the lawyer that is well known in your wife's area for defending women and hire him before she does.

Any thoughts on flat fee vs hourly? Just consulted one that is flat fee, just until we reach thy final judgement.

Stick to the lawyer that only wants the Meat & potatoes of your divorce. That's the money and child custody.

If a lawyer wants to hear your life's story? Then they're only interested in billable hours.

Is there a best form of cancer? Good luck - just know their business plan is to generate as much revenue for themselves as possible. Do not trust them ever, they are not your friend and do not care about you - do your research yourself. Reach out on these type platforms for specific advice. I'm five years and 100's of thousands in fees. If it's contentious nothing happens until they think you're done paying them.

They all suck. But talk to them. Mediators are mutually agreed between the parties.
