Yep this is something that every woman should read for sure, I couldn't agree more with the majority of what she's said. I will say though, there's nothing wrong with wanting to work and be independent income wise etc. the issue is balance. I happen to know somebody who took this approach and she's doing just fine because she took time off her work to raise her children now they're older and becoming more independent she's back at work again.

The problem feminists have is they're so mired in their hatred of men they think they can do everything without them, that's just not reality. Even single dads and mothers who manage it I'm sure can attest to how physically and mentally demanding it is to raise even one child and financially support the both of them.

It's simply a lot easier to have someone help out a lot so that they can focus on other things without having to worry about the children. This isn't some grand social engineering project dictated by traditionalists though they certainly try to make it out they invented this concept it's just far more practical.

This is why you have this push by the left to get the government to chip in for single moms' daycare costs. Deep down they know it isn't working so they're trying to mitigate this utter disaster in gender relations by giving single parents ( Mostly moms though thanks to feminism ) a fighting chance with government money.

There's one line in there that brought back a memory:

Men don’t like competitors. Men want a partner. It took me until my late 40s to realize this.

I recall, some years back, reading a very long screed written by some chick (I don't recall where) in which she crafted this argument about how a relationship with a Prince Charming-type character could never work in the long-run because the woman "can't compete with him." And this was the crux of the argument. That "she can't compete with him," so the relationship wouldn't work out.

And this line of argumentation really confused me. There were questions like "What kind of competition is this?" and "Why would you want to be keeping score in a relationship?" and "Why would you want to compete with your partner" and, "No really, what competition is this? I don't understand what you mean," and the most obvious one, "What if you 'win' the competitions with your partner too often, lady? Would you still be attracted to him?" and right back to "Seriously, what the hell kind of 'competition' are you talking about here, miss? You haven't given one example," and so on.

What struck me the most is she seemed to act as if everybody knew what she was talking about and she didn't need to explain herself. A sort of "Oh yes, of course you want to be locked in competition with your boyfriend/husband" or something. It was really important for a woman to "be able to compete" with her partner. And, to this day, I still don't know what the hell she means and she was not in a question-answering mood to clarify what the flaming hell she was talking about. Having a good relationship often requires you to know what makes the other person happy and have a willingness to compromise with them and forgive minor slights and so on; are those compatible with "competition"? Doesn't "competition" add a temptation to back-stab and not see yourself as being on the same team as your competitor? I just didn't understand what the hell she was driving at. You wanna compete with your partner? Whaa?

I'm glad to see that this author is at least admitting that the attitude existed and that it was odd!

[–]Blutarg 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I don't get it, either.

[–]fengpi 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Glad you know what I mean.

One question which I couldn't stop wondering about "competing" like that: Okay, so you wanna "compete" with your partner. Okay, fine, whatever floats your crazy boat. So... what happens when you "win" against him, lady? What do you win? And, gee, what happens if you "win" repeatedly against your partner? The dude starts looking pathetic and you dump him? You love him despite being a loser in your eyes? And he doesn't resent you at all for acting unsupportive? You don't mind him "losing" more often than you do? What?

This wasn't a kind of "you are competing alongside your partner in a 'you and him vs. the world' battle" kind of competition against everyone else. That's something I can fully appreciate and get behind. This was, as near as I can figure, saying it is necessary to win over your man. "Compete against," not "compete alongside."

What counts as "winning" in this kind of partnership? What's "losing"? You have more professional accomplishments? You make more money? Do you have a race down Main Street wearing clown shoes or something? I dunno about you, but I like to come home and relax, not compete. Christ, who wants to "compete" 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? That sounds absolutely goddamned exhausting and stressful. Such a woman's partner is supposed to love the thrill of "competing" against her all the time? He doesn't ever get a break?

Is she allowed to backstab and play by underhanded means in the midst of all this "competing"? Is she gonna sabotage him at some point? What? Surely, such a woman cannot allow herself to be soft or warm or fuzzy very often. What are the rules? Do you say them up-front or do you make them up as you go along, lady? Oh wait, that's it right there, isn't it? Did I nail it? She makes up the rules for the competition as it unfolds and she arbitrates all disputes and she keeps the score, yes? And the dude smiles and nods and agrees, and he gallantly steps in and silently catches her when the situation goes out of control and she falls right on her face, and he will gallantly accept no credit for doing that, which is convenient because she won't give him any credit. Did I get it right?

Christ, the whole cloud of thoughts was just baffling to me. Am I not "hip"? Am I not "with it"? Am I not "cool"? Am I a dinosaur, behind the times? Am I an old man, saddled with obsolete old timey thinking, 23 Skiddo, dancing the Charleston with a Tommy-gun in a speakeasy? "Get to the retirement home and die, old man! A super-cool modern grrrl has gotta compete with her boyfriend because that's what a super-cool modern grrrl is all about! WHOOT"

Sheesh.

And people wonder why Western men are increasingly dating foreign or non white women from more traditional backgrounds where men and women complement each other.. Honestly as someone who isnt white but who has dated women from both traditional cultures and those raised in this western culture, this is the main complaint I have against predominantly white women or those instilled with that western feminist "I must compete with men, or else I am lesser" mindset. I can understand why marriage rates are so low. Nobody wants to be in a constant competition in a relationship, men already feel pressured at work.

[–]fengpi 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't wonder about that, man. I don't wonder.

Lemme get you a drink when you're in my neck of the woods.

[–]Blutarg 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And why would you want to constantly compete with the person you're closest to? That sounds like a huge black hole of time and effort and energy to me.

[–]w1g2 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's interesting she brought up the Prince Charming story which is by far the most popular story with women. I've been thinking lately that women like to think what they want is Anne of Green Gables, where Anne competes against her romantic interest Gilbert Blythe throughout their entire academic career. Of course the story ends with her becoming a teacher and he becoming a doctor so it falls into the guy with higher status trope anyway.

It seems to me that women like to use academic and career achievement as an insurance policy for what partner they can expect. If she's the best, she deserves at least equal to her.

Dont forget fem centric welfare states wouldn't exist without male Tax payers, so either way, men are supporting women. Its just that now, the government has a gun to the head of every productive man. Im convinced Social welfare is what propping up this delusion among many women and feminists that women dont need men in the modern age.

Feminism has created immeasurable heartache around the world.

Childlessness is on the rise – not just in Britain but worldwide. Latest estimates suggest that 25 per cent of women in Britain of childbearing age will never have a baby. The proportion of women without children has almost doubled since the Nineties, according to the Office for National Statistics, with one in five 45-year-olds yet to start a family. Overseas, one in five American women in their early forties is childless, rising to a third of women in the same age bracket in Germany and Japan.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/9847642/Helen-Mirren-confronts-the-final-female-taboo.html

Something like 30% of marriages used to start in the workplace, pre #MeToo of course, so is feminism's (with full support of mainstream media) latest drive going to further increase childlessness in women by driving wedges between the sexes?

Maybe it's all coincidental, but if feminism set out to make life miserable for women then it's succeeding.

[–]wazzoz99 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Looking at the childless and marriage statistics, I have no doubt that the current craziness from feminists and many modern women in generalwill likely get worse.

Incels will look tame compared to the millions of frustrated spinsters looking to blame men for the fact that the choices they made when they were young, and their own gullibility to the feminist movement has made them miserable and lonely. If you think todays normalized anti male bigotry is bad, just wait when the third of unmarried millennial women reach their late 30s. Feminist recruitment will be in overdrive.

[–]illigal 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

This is pure BS. That’s like having an article about a guy who chose a particular path in life and much later realized that he yearned for something else.

This woman’s life wasn’t ruined by feminism - she just chose wrong. She wanted a family life and went the workaholic route instead.

The same article could have a stay at home mom saying she should’ve listened to feminists and gone to work instead.

[–]Blutarg 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That article could have said that, sure, but realistically how many people wish they had spent more time at the office and less with their family?

It seems clear to me that she did what feminists--including her mom, probably the biggest influence on her life--say to do, so blaming feminism is fair.

And I don't see that as reactionary. If anything, the idea that the way to be happy is by working at a job and earning money is every bit as conservative as telling women they should only be stay at home mothers.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

This sub is going reactionary.

[–]Standard_Rules_Apply 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This sub has BEEN reactionary for a while now.

[–]azazelcrowley 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There's nothing reactionary about noting that feminism tells lies to people to get them into a particular lifestyle, and especially lies to women about how men think. You're allowed to want a family life. Top comment is supporting work-life balance. That's not reactionary.

[–]Standard_Rules_Apply 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If that's all that took place here, the casual noting of pure truths, then yes you would be correct.

[–]DavidByron2 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh is that why every reply is slamming this article?

[–]omegaphallic 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'll point out this is a completely anticdotcal story, not every women who makes those choices feels that way.

[–]wazzoz99 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But enough do that its starting to become a recurrent meme at this point.

[–]DavidByron2 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nah. it's just another "I has an abortion and then my head exploded and i got cancer" type of story the tradcons love.

I'm guessing it is fake. Who has 4 college degrees?

[–]Halafax 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm guessing it is fake. Who has 4 college degrees?

I have a friend with 4 college degrees. Some from prestigious universities. And she's still going to school.

At first I just assumed she liked going to school, but she told me that at this point she has to keep doing it to keep her student loans from coming due.

She's good at school, but at this point it's just a way of life. She also works and has some hobbies. Consequently, not much time for herself.

.......

Seriously, that's the kind of scheme you'd expect from The Gang on It's Always Sunny, except they wouldn't bother going to class and they'd end up impaling Dee on a sharp piece of wood and Charlie's head would be superglued to the floor.

Does she take on new loans to pay for the current classes? Or is she paying out of pocket for the additional/supplemental degrees?

If she's just taking on more debt to defer paying old debt, that's idiotic; male or female...

[–]Halafax 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She’s currently getting an accounting degree from a low-cost community college and taking the CPA exams. She makes good money, I assume she is paying for this out-of-pocket.

Reads like a tradcon's wet fantasy of what happens with educated women.

Tradcons are almost as bad as feminists. "Don't go to college women, or your uterus falls out".

The reason SOME women with a good job do find it harder to find a husband is that they are super picky and will only "marry up". Thus they select only men who are the least impressed by their accomplishments and most put off by their accomplishments to date. No shit that's an issue.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Boo hoo hoo.

You were warned, you yelled at others warning you calling them racist, sexist transphobic phallocrat penis wielding oppressors.

Enjoy your cats.

[–]IronJohnMRA 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She tried to steer me on what she thought was the right path, but feminism is a lie. That’s what I want women to know.

Don't worry. The MGTOW's will be excellent teachers. Rest assured women will get the message.
