My understanding, according to the team statement, is that the woman's team was added later-on in the planing process and by then, there weren't enough business class seats available.

Naturally, an explanation like that will be met with eye-rolling sarcastic sneers of "Yeah, suuuuuuure!" by people who've never worked in an organization before or never had to plan trips for large groups of people before.

Think about it like this, would they cram a football team and all the behind-the-sceners in business class? No! Just the celebs, because, well, that’s just how our culture behaves, pamper the celebs and athletes, because they bring in the big bucks.

This rings just the same of the Passengers movie situation we’re Chris Pratt was paid quite a bit less than Jlo, despite being equal leads, because Jlo simply was thought to bring in more buck.

You're an idiot if you think they don't understand economics, PR is worth money, so much money that as much money is spent on marketing as is used to develop products if not more. Sometimes companies can simply get away with pink packaging and make the consumer pay for it while seeming pro-woman, sometimes you have to book some pricey seats on a plane. Either way, a good trade.
