Right, this happened to me back in the day.

He was trying to get you to open up to him. By sussing out your vulnerabilities he can get under your skin, collect information and later use it against you to manipulate you. It is also a way to quickly establish a feeling of intimacy and create the illusion that he is there for you, that he listens to you and supports you.

He is openly stating he likes women when they are showing their vulnerable side so that he can exploit them.

Just think about it logically if you are reading this and it all sounds too machiavellian: why would a person prefer people who rant? Wouldn't that be exhausting to hear over and over? What does he gain from it? His intentions aren't good.
