Now women can use special apps to anonymously report “harassment” at work. Men won’t even know who their accuser is. Orwell would be proud.

The BBC lost its integrity to political ideology and feminist ego-stroking a long time ago. This is nothing new.

Yet it's apparently not ok to say that men are more intelligent than women? It's a topsy turvy world.

Excellent point. Thank you.

Women often use various eating strategies in order to try and control their lives, I’ve seen it myself many times.

[–]pipes_are_calling 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am vegan myself. It fills me with actual rage when I meet people like this. For the record, I don’t care what you eat, people. But if a bunch of us of us are literally doing damage to our bodies out of vanity and ignorance, it makes the rest of us seem like loonies when in actuality, there are several legitimate reasons to walk this path.

Also, I’m a tradesman. There are lots of people in my field who make assumptions about me when or if it’s revealed that I don’t eat stuff that they eat (usually I avoid the subject unless they are saying they will buy me some grub).

Veganism is bigger than any one of us. For me it boils down to compassion. If I can’t be compassionate when talking about my choices vs others choices, then I have done the idea a disservice. I do what I can and keep my head down otherwise. There is no need for arguing. Simply being the best version of myself is the most powerful argument.

[–]xNOM 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Veganism, animal rights, feminism. This is all upper-class overeducated white lady neuroticism. These people are only interested in their childish feelings and virtue signalling to one another. Extending their ideas to the whole planet would be an unmitigated disaster.

[–]Consilio_et_Animis[S] 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

This article is so full of disparaging men, that it’s hard to know where to start.

It just assumes that veganism is good and eating meat is bad. And therefore if you are vegan you’re good and if you are a meat eater you are bad.

Where does it discuss the possibility that women are weak, and just jump on the latest social bandwagon without any thought?

Where is the discussion that we evolved to the point we have done because we eat meat? Where is the discussion of the evidence, that eating meat is good for you, and that men are better at accepting this reality (if it’s true)? So many other omissions as well.

Note how anti-vaccination women far, far outweigh men by a factor of at least 3:1.

women... just jump on the latest social bandwagon without any thought

You've just stumbled upon a fundamental truth of life.

Note how vegetarianism and veganism is correlated with eating disorders; and almost exclusively in women:

Where is the discussion of the evidence, that eating meat is good for you

There is no discussion because there is no such evidence. The consensus among scientists is that eating meat is unnecessary for us and harmful for the planet.

I know this article "triggered" a lot of people on this sub, and I hate to see what is normally a place for rational discussion decay into arguments based on emotion rather than facts.

British Medical Journal, 2019:

“Vegan and Plant-Based Diets Worsen Brain Health”

https://neurosciencenews.com/vegan-diet-brain-health-14845/

[–]2bitMatthews 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Veganism is currently fashionable and women to follow fashion more than men. Also women seem more susceptible to "fad" diets than men. They should do another survey in about a years time because I guarantee most of these "fashion vegans" will have moved on by then.

[–]trprep 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

People generally can't stay on the vegan diet long-term because of health issues, so even most ethical vegans and whatnot leave the diet. Relatedly there is a trend among ex-vegans to go on the carnivore diet, which is a fad but also eating so much plant matter wrecked their intestines so much they lost the ability to digest plant foods at all without it having some kind of negative effect like abdominal pain or bloating.

[–]pipes_are_calling 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I’ve been vegan for 5 years. Literally a non issue. There are omnivorous people who eat unhealthy, so too will there be herbivores or carnivores who just cannot get their act together.

It is possible to get everything you need from plants, particularly if you grow them yourself. The last qualifier is to do with B12. As long as a person can takes 1hr to research how to get B12 as a vegan that buys farmed produce, it’s a non issue.

[–]trprep 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Most vegans that eat healthy vegan food still end up with issues bad enough that they quit, that's just true, but if it works for you go for it

[–]pipes_are_calling 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I work a fairly physically demanding job for what it’s worth. Last year I also was on call 14 hrs a day Monday through Saturday and worked at something else for about 8-11hrs on Sundays. I guess I can’t help but doubt whether the people you heard of who ended up with health issues were taking it seriously. I believe that a lot of the people who go vegan don’t bother to research. I have known many people who went vegan or vegetarian and it was a very transparent cover for eating disorders. And beyond that, some people just don’t have it together in general.

If a person doesn’t like eating greens or beans I certainly would not recommend the lifestyle, but from a nutrition standpoint, it begs the question, what magical ingredient do people believe livestock animals are eating that we can’t eat from legumes, fruits, oils, grains, etc. I can personally guarantee I eat healthier than most livestock do. Fyi, also a social drinker, perhaps 7-12 beers a month, just yer everydude here.

Also perhaps it bears mentioning, there are many strong mammals who are completely herbivorous. They get what they need just the same. God knows the four food groups really overvalued dairy products, but the information was pumped out to people regardless because the dairy industry was the sponsor.

Any life changes a person makes should be informed, and I would also add, it’s perhaps easier to find misinformation than the truth unless a person deliberately looks for it.

[–]trprep 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The thing is, humans digestive system evolved away from being able to produce certain types of nutrition and to require more nutrition that can only be found naturally in the amounts needed in animal foods. It's believed that that happened to shift resources to the brain, since that was providing a competitive advantage, and so as we evolved to become smarter we were at the same time hunting animals that gave us foods nutrient dense enough to support that process. Something like b12 is produced by gut bacteria for the most part, so a cow will absorb it and distribute it into its tissues, but for humans we don't have enough of that bacteria in the right places in our digestive systems, since it's mostly in the colon and so it doesn't have time to absorb. Vitamin k2 became more important as we shifted to more of an animal-based diet, so humans became worse at converting plant vitamin k into the active form in animals, which is k2. K2 is in good amounts in dairy and you can get it from fermenting animal foods, or the one k2 rich fermented product I'm aware of natto, which is made from soy beans. K2 is important for mobilizing calcium into bones and for blood to function well. Humans lost the ability to convert enough ALA omega 3 (the plant form) into DHA and EPA (the active form in animals) as well, because we started relying on animal foods for that. Another major factor is that plants attach things like oxalates to nutrients to prevent their absorption, and then other anti-nutrients harm the gut lining, so nutrients like calcium, zinc, and iron, that seem to be in significant amounts in some plants, don't get absorbed in large enough quantities to reach healthy levels. There are a lot of other examples, but basically humans became very inefficient at a lot of processes herbivorous animals have and lost some capabilities entirely. With regard to strong mammals, they just have different digestive systems or ways to deal with nutrients. Gorillas have a very long digestive tract to break down plant matter and get more time for bacteria to work its magic on the food, cows and sheep have ruminant digestive systems that involve multiple stomachs, etc, and they tend to eat for a lot of time every day to get enough calories, which is hard for humans to do without modern technology and supplementation.

So it's not so much an issue skipping the animal step and going right to the source of nutrition, it's that humans gradually lost the ability to live well on only plants over long periods. It can certainly be healthy in the short term, and from what I understand most vegans have their health improve significantly at first, but over time deficiencies can develop with b12, iron, omega 3, zinc, and others as they are cycled through body tissues but not replaced from food consumption.

Grain, sugar, general big-ag, and related vegetarian/vegan lobbies and corporations are the most powerful in the food industry and have been for some time, because they're able to make tons of profits off of value-added products. The profits on beef and dairy are actually low in comparison, so even though they can be influential it's minor relative to big-ag with its big money-makers being corn, soy, and wheat. From what I can tell the reason for the recent push for veganism is that there have been massive investments in vegan value-added products, especially meat alternatives.

[–]pipes_are_calling 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good info, it’s important to eat well and sometimes missing even one nutrient will make it harder for you to absorb others. I do what I can and I feel alright, Idk, check in with me in another couple years, haha

People get creative when they lose profits. I’m just one person, but I will probably not eat meat again unless there were drastic circumstances that demanded it. Obviously companies like to minimize their losses, and if they think they can retain subscribers so to speak, people will do just about anything.

[–]18Apollo18 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like someone's been watching some of those YouTube videos where people think eating just lettuce and a banana is a vegan diet

[–]cld8 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You literally couldn't be more wrong about everything.

No one is telling you to become a vegan, but at least educate yourself before you pass judgment on other people's choices.

[–]cld8 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Veganism is currently fashionable and women to follow fashion more than men. Also women seem more susceptible to "fad" diets than men. They should do another survey in about a years time because I guarantee most of these "fashion vegans" will have moved on by then.

Veganism and vegetarianism have been around in the US and Europe for over a century, and in other parts of the world for much longer.

But keep insisting that it's a "fad diet" if it makes you feel any better.

[–]2bitMatthews 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm well aware that they've been around for a long time. But they've only recently become fashionable. If a person becomes a vegan to follow fashion then it is a fad diet for that person. Maybe I should've been more clear so I could avoid triggering you. Either that or you need to work on your reading comprehension.

[–]cld8 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nobody becomes vegan to "follow fashion". It's clear that you have no contact with actual vegans, other than perhaps in movies or TV shows. But seeing as you seem to prefer making insults rather than having an actual discussion, I won't be replying further.

[–]RobotFish69420 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"... suggesting that meat is essential if you want to be healthy, and invoking the hierarchy of the natural world, to justify the idea that humans can do what they like with other creatures."

That's called the food chain. You learn the food chain in kindergarten. Light get's consumed by plants, plants get consumed by bacteria and creatures, creatures get consumed by bigger/stronger creatures. We're at the top of the food chain, so we wat meat. It's not "Men are so mean, they eat animals, they're evil!" We are omnivores. We shouldn't be shamed for eating food that we are supposed to be eating.

Also, did they try and say that "meat is healthy" doesn't justify it? Without protein, you can't repair tissue. If you exercise a lot but don't eat meat, (or a very large number of beans) not only will the workout do literally nothing to make you stronger, but it will slowly tear apart your muscles, because they don't have the protein to deal with the stress and tension from a workout.

[–]geniice 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's called the food chain. You learn the food chain in kindergarten.

Yeah that's the lies to children version. The reality of food webs is rather more complicated.

[–]RobotFish69420 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was just simplifying it so that the comment wasn't the longest fucking thing on the planet

[–]Dunkolunko 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I try to go for the more ethical options like free range, and I have an issue with inhumane slaughter practices like kosher and halal, but I really don't believe that a peaceful life followed by a bolt gun to the consciousness is worse than the constant alertness to danger and eventual slow and/or brutal death to disease, injury and predators that they experience in the wild. They don't protest lions hunting their prey, they don't call for an end to predation, so I think most vegans are obsessed more with what people do than what happens to animals.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The healthy weight for men ranges drastically more than the healthy weight for women, and is also much higher. Men also need more protein than women based on their higher bodyweights.

It is little surprise that more men would opt out of a diet that excludes such an efficient source of calories and protein. Obnoxious veganism is bad enough but throwing feminism in with it just makes it intolerable.

[–]trprep -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Even considering the specific benefits men get from eating meat, there is also plenty of talk around women losing their periods and not being able to conceive a child among vegans, so it's really sad to see possibly the most clear sign that the diet is unhealthy for a human largely ignored in the current talk on veganism in the popular media.

[–]corgibuttlover69 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

there is also plenty of talk around women losing their periods and not being able to conceive a child among vegans

uhm, is there, really?

[–]trprep 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I'd say pretty much all the female vegan influencers have at least discussed the issue because their audience brings it up and most have admitted that they at one point lost their periods on the diet, thinking of people like Freelee, Fully Raw Kristena, Unnatural Vegan, Fairly Local Vegan, etc. Most say it's because of eating raw vegan, high-carb low-fat, raw 'til 4, or some other variant, but these are diets recommended by some of the most popular vegan influencers including being recommended by those I mentioned that had lost their period on a different variant.

Here's a compilation that has the people I mentioned and some others with smaller audiences: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIskI6jf_mk

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because they lack a sense of taste?

[–]accidental_me 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men need more protein because their muscles and brains are bigger, actually everything is bigger. Evolution can't make things that get what they need if they don't want what they need. Even many vegan women crave meat when they are pregnant because the have to "build" the baby.

Yeah, but who cares if you can spin a story about the stupid, no-good men. And if you work for the mainstream media you can.

[–]icedragon71 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, i couldn't finish the article. Once i got to the part where men aren't becoming vegan because of “precarious masculinity” ,then i had to stop for my own mental well being. Never once, have i sat down to a steak and thought "Good! This will shore up my masculinity". I've sat down to a steak because it tastes bloody good. End of.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think it’s because men have more muscle mass and need more protein so they feel that they have to eat meat

[–]CorneredSponge 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't men need more protein to maintain their muscle density?

[–]WolfeBane84 -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Because veganism is 100% feefees.

You literally can not survive in a healthy manner without modern intervention (pills etc).

[–]pipes_are_calling 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This isn’t true. I am a tradesman, and have been vegan for 5 years. Feel free to ask me about it. I already mentioned B12 above. I do not need to take supplements because I have researched properly. Feel free to ask me anything.

[–]WolfeBane84 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Okay, I'll start with why, specifically. I'd like to request that you go into detail as to your motivations and not just "muh meat = murder"

[–]pipes_are_calling 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have never said that, and I never will. This was a defensive comment, so allow me to ease your mind: I’m not passive aggressive ever about anyone else’s eating habits. Sometimes others will poke fun at me, and because I’m in the trades, it happens often. I have a good sense of humour and make fun of myself more than anyone else could, and sometimes dissenting opinions are useful to us and can give us more perspective.

Heck if we met over drinks, you’d probably be surprised to find more similarities than differences. Blue collar. I reddit. I game. I love music. I follow the nba very closely. I love reading and watching videos about people building their dream houses. I don’t get to travel a lot, but would like to someday, maybe before I dig in my roots the next time around. I follow men’s rights and mgtow because I believe that men’s voices are sometimes ignored today, and I believe in equality. I try to treat people with respect even when they disagree with me ‘cause that’s what my old man would have done. I follow the news. I read the comic one piece, it’s message of freedom deeply resonates with me because I believe there is a slow and steady attack by the elite to remove freedoms, chiefly among them freedom of speech.

The only reason I bothered to comment, is because you were wrong in your original comments second statement. I don’t take supplements and I work a physically demanding job and have been vegan for 5 years. When you make absolute statements, it is very easy for them to be disproved. I think one of the biggest disservices to our collective name is when people half ass, particularly if they are vegan/“celiac”/ whatever else in order to mask an eating disorder. I can get pretty heated about this, because people close to me have done this and it is terribly frustrating and gives all of us a bad name particularly if their negligence towards their diet causes damage to their organs.

I don’t usually bother going into my own motivations because people will either want to judge me or they will feel judged by me. I simply do not to judge others over this and I hope for the same treatment. If you are of the red pill mindset, and are open to the information, Earthlings will certainly give you enough material for further research. It’s important to know who sponsors research, because I’ve found that there seems to be plenty of research that is sponsored either directly or by proxy companies in order to further a narrative. It’s a little distressing. I found earthlings a little unsettling because I grew up with dogs and a cat, and lived next to a horse ranch. Fair warning.
