Many of the most wildly popular and beloved movies of all time had a female lead. Shit, Studio Ghibli is arguably the greatest animated movie studio of all time, and it uses female leads in nearly all of its movies.

It's weird that I've never heard anyone, even the most feral weeaboo, complain about Ghibli female leads 🤔. I thought anyone who criticized a singular female lead just wanted all white male protagonists or something?

Aliens. One of the most legendary action movies of all time. Female lead, male supporting cast, the first-ever Academy Award nomination for Best Actress ever given for a science-fiction film, mom-protecting-child theme that anybody could understand and relate to regardless of age or gender, no overt female superiority agenda.

Oceans 9. People claimed it wasn't as popular as Oceans 11 due to misogyny, yet it was rated better than Oceans 12 on IMDB. Not bad for a first-time movie series.

Milla Jovovich. Has made a career out of making action movies, including starring in an entire franchise, Resident Evil. Some of her movies have scored with critics, some have not, but viewership has been high enough that the franchise has been funded by Hollywood investors again and again.

EDIT: arguably, however, Hollywood overlooked a great opportunity when it never gave Karen Allen her own spinoff at an Indiana Jones-Tomb Raider-style action/comedy movie.

SECOND EDIT: That there have been so many successful and popular movies with female leads just goes to show the female-leads-movies-unsuccessful-because-of-misogyny-claim-myth isn't about making better movies at all. It's about manipulating the public's perception of movies to advance a set of self-serving lies.

Sorry to burst your bubble but just because a movie flops doesn't mean it's the result of misogyny.

A lot of movies with female leads suck not because it has a female lead but because the creators think that just slapping an anti-mysoginy sticker onto it without good writing is going to magically make the movie good.

It's easier to claim that your movie flopped because of "incels" than to acknowledge that the creative team behind the movie had no idea what they were doing.

They were screaming "misogyny" before it was even released. It didn't bomb because it had females in it, it bombed because it sucked.
