I totally failed a tricky congruence test last night which may be educational for others to know about.

What happened: the girl snooped in my house and found a small chemistry laboratory that I use to fool around doing biology, metallurgy and inorganic chemistry. She then came to me crying and fearful and announced that she was terrified that I was a drug dealer (background info: note I am very rich and have no obvious source of wealth).

How I failed the test: I protested that I was not a drug dealer and asked her to trust me and made explanations for why I had a chemistry lab in my house and why I was wealthy and how it had nothing to do with drugs.

How I should have reacted: I should have reacted by saying (1) "I guess I need to find a girlfriend who wants to be with a drug dealer" or (2) "I get it, you need somebody you can trust, I will call you a car. Good luck, I will treasure the time we have had together." or (3) "So, Mrs. Secretive doesn't like my secrets, is that right?" or (4) "I thought the fact that I was a drug dealer was what excited you about me."

ANALYSIS: This is a type of congruence test. These kinds of congruence tests are along the lines of "you are hiding something from me" or "you are lying to me" or "you are doing something dishonest / disreputable / sinful, aren't you?" etc. What made this test so utterly convincing was that first of all it was based on reality: I am inexplainably rich and do have a chemistry lab, so it was not just bullshit she was making up, she had plausible rationale; on top of that her sobbing and being very afraid put me off my guard and triggered protective impulses, so I totally fell into her trap. Note to self: beware crying women. It should also be noted that this episode occurred at the exact time that otherwise the first sexual encounter with her would have taken place. Also, she looked into my eyes during the episode in a strange and scrutinizing way, which should have been a tip off, but even though I noticed that clue, it did not register with me. Being a little drunk and sleepy did not help.
