At first, my knee-jerk reaction to the Kens acting the way they did was annoyance. I thought, “come on, not all guys are like that. That’s way over the top.” I thought about how I don’t drink beer, I’ve never been that into sports or stereotypically “macho” things, and I would never treat my wife the way Ken treated Barbie. And my dad isn’t like that either, and neither are most of my friends. I was internalizing all of this, and not trying to think more objectively.

Then, however, I asked myself a really uncomfortable question: Are more men in the world like my dad, or like the Kens in the movie? I think a part of me knew the answer but wanted to avoid it. I wanted to think about my personal experience, my small slice of the world that I know isn’t that representative of what most people go through.

So none of the men this dude knows is a stereotypical male chauvinist pig. And he asks himself, should he rely on his own observations about the world or should he believe the Barbie movie and assume that most men are actually more like a caricature based on a children's toy? Why, it must be more like the Barbie movie, of course! What a dumbass.

Imagine seriously making the case that most women are like Barbie.
