A recent post has inspired me to tell this story.

Between 2015 and 2018 I was volunteering at a soup kitchen in the city. Between 80-120 men would come for food and somewhere warm in the Church three nights a week. On the occasions that a woman would come in, the elderly female volunteers would make a beeline for her. She would be taken to another room where she was allowed to shower, have first choice of the clothes bin and more than the usual allotment of food. Meanwhile the volunteers would call their industry contacts to get her into a shelter that night and would help her on the road to social housing. On one particular night after the food was dispensed I was out in the crowd cleaning up when I met an older homeless guy I knew from working at the hospital. I asked him how he felt about the special treatment women get, he was the consummate gentleman. He said “absolutely agree, the streets are no place for a woman”. While she was being driven to the shelter the men were pushed back out to find their respective sleeping spots. In the following weeks a Facebook request would go out and the community overwhelmingly donated to set the woman up in new housing.

Sometime later I saw in the local paper that he had passed away in a cardboard box under a highway bridge.

In the following years of family court I realised men really are on their own, women are protected from every bad choice they make and men are punished mercilessly.

For me I realised just how easy it is to slip off the bottom rungs of society and there’s no way back.

It’s very hard to not become bitter when the most privileged women on the planet are whining about fair pay and reparations!!!!!?!?!?!! It’s just sick
