Today I went swimming. When I was in the water, a couple with kids occupied the bench where I left my stuff. Father was playing with his son, was nice to see it and it reminded me of my nephews and niece. I smiled at the two of them. They packed up their stuff and buggered off. I had a feeling it was me who made them uncomfortable.

At least I had more place to change in peace:)

To those saying that it is not right for a 6 year old girl (or boy, for that matter)to be in a bar - I am now tending to agree.

You see, this bar, during the week is what some people would call a gastropub where you get local food together with your drinks and people can sit around tables sampling local delicacies.

When I was there during the photo incident - it was very early - like 5 or 6 pm and there was no one except the barman, me and his daughter.

So the atmosphere was very friendly and the barman and I were talking about really normal family stuff. His wife dropped the girl there and went out. The girl just jumped on to my lap. I had only had a beer and a half and I don't know why we men are ashamed to say these things but the little girl seemed so cute to me.

At no point did her father disapprove. On the contrary he encouraged her to take something that I was offering her. Is it wrong or perverted to say that I, as a father of a young boy, would also like to have a daughter?

There seemed nothing wrong to me for a little girl to visit her father's place of work, but when yesterday, a Friday evening, I saw her there among half drunk people it did not seem right.

I have zero interest in children for any purpose I find them annoying but -> find a different bar and don’t photo anything under 20 or with breasts that didn’t sign ✍️… imagine anything untoward happen the villagers will come for You right ?

Here's the deal and I'm probably going to get shit for this:

Her mother told me: it is just that I don't like men to take photos of my daughter.

Better to be safe than sorry. I don't like anyone taking pictures of my kids without consent. There are some obvious examples where that doesn't apply (e.g. playing basketball at school).

But if we're in WalMart and someone down the aisle points the camera at her and snaps a picture - my first thought is going to be "be prepared for shit".

That being said - sometimes my kid does do things that makes her stand out and, of course, people are going to take pictures. Just is what it is.

I'm thinking more human trafficking than anything - of which men and women both do this and often women are the front-lines so they can be less obvious - for the reason the chick above falls for. Women can hide in plain sight and get away with it.

But let's be real here. If anything were to happen to that kid you would be the first suspect. Not only did you take a picture - you came back with an argument.

So it is OK for a 6 year old girl to mingle with drunken men and women on the most busy day of the week (Friday) but a married man whom she knows and is a friend of her husband is immediately a suspect because he snaps a selfie with the little girl and her father.

Playing "what about" isn't going to win you anything. Find a new bar and move on.

You're mad because it doesn't feel fair. I get it. But even if every comment here said "you're in the right" - you have NOTHING to win from here. What are you going to do? Go back to the bar and said r/mensrights agreed with me? Feel validated somehow?

I understand how you feel because you have a good heart and took the photo with complete innocence but this day and age I don’t blame anyone for not wanting photos of their children, especially when they are at a bar at night with anyone. Sure, she’s going about it the wrong way because it’s a near impossible expectation to enforce when she’s taking the kid to a bar on a Friday night but just don’t take it personally and find somewhere else to hang out. She and her husband sound obnoxious although I understand her reluctance to want to leave photos of her children with anyone

Maybe you should tell her, that women are responsible for the majority of child abuse AND child murder. Both numbers are between 70 - 71%. They collected data for the study over 6 years.

Parental instinct doesn't follow fairness or PC.

It's a big bad world out there and lots of "friendly looking guys" have other motives.

Some parents are ok with it, and some aren't, and in the end when it comes to their child their word is law.

I understand your feelings, I'm a man too, but frankly our feelings take a back seat to parental authority, there is no such thing as a human right to take photos with someone else's child.
