A country that cannot get enough of its own citizens to voluntarily take up arms to defend it from invasion without resorting to conscription is a country not worth existing. Countries are only ideas in the minds of their people and if not enough people are willing to voluntarily defend them without using conscription then the country loses its right to retain its sovereignty. The rights of individuals matter more than the sovereignty of a mere idea in the minds of people

sorry but I have to disagree here, fighting for the fatherland is the duty of a man just like motherhood is the duty of a woman, we were made for this from birth, and this is how we earned our place in society before feminism, we had more privileges because we earned them by sacrifice. The problem here is not men being forced to fulfil their duty, but women running from their duty

An eastern european country, I wouldn't say is the forefront of gender equality. You are also forgetting the fact, these decisions are not being made by women. They are being made by men, who are the ones who think and are perpetuating this toxic masculinity thinking.

Now you ask why is no one questiong it. Well people are. Just google it and you will see many articles talking about it. Ukraine are fighting for their country and lives, and you think now is a good time to point out the equality hypocrisy?

Also one aspect you are missing here is the risks for women in war and in warzones. They face additional risks that men do not typically face. Both from enemies but from other civilians and allied soldiers. This is an important factor.

But if we accept every war will always manifest with traditional gender roles. Please ask yourself what you are advocating for, and what your end goal is. Do you honestly want the military to make up equal men and women regardless of circumstance? Or are you ultimatly okay with the status quo, but you think society/women should just be more grateful?

No, it isn't fair. War isn't fair, ever. Lots of people die in war and you need expendable soldiers. Even with all sorts of high tech bullshit, you still need guys in the field fighting.

And men can be that. It's our noble sacrifice to make. If my country was under a legitimate threat I'd go if I was called up. Not because I particularly agree with the politicians in power, but because my home is my home and I'm not leaving it without trying to defend it first.

It'd be real fucking nice if the women stood up and made their sacrifice, and held up their half of that bargain, and started making the next generation of soldiers. Nah, they are just gonna leave.

when you talk to feminists about this they say 'ok, forget conscription, what other things do men have to do that women don't'. They just don't like it because it exposes their double standards and hypocrisy.

The majority of women are fine with male-only conscription Some percentage of men believe men should protect women. So, there will always be a majority that favors male-only conscription. Feminists, if they say anything at all, will blame the patriarchy.
