When I (42m) decided to file for divorce interest rates were mid 6% and I felt I could swing buying my wife out with a refi. Now that we are almost at mediation, interest rates are above 8% and I don’t think I will be able to swing it.
I am looking for any ideas on how to keep the house.
I live in the twin cities. Make much more than wife and we have two kids. We are going to want to do 50/50 split of kids and both of us would like me to keep the house if it makes sense and fair to her.
The home is worth $550k and we have $300k left on the mortgage.
Thoughts??? Ideas???
I plan to call the mortgage company next week to see if I can assume the loan, but it’s a traditional, so I don’t think I will be able to.
