If having casual sex is 'empowering' for women why do they need to 'heal'?

It's horseshit, all of it.

Women enjoy all kinds of sex, including casual sex, with attractive men. What happens here is that many times, women have casual sex with an attractive man in the secret hope that they'll get a relationship out of it. When they don't get their relationship (as happens about 95%+ of the time), they bitch and complain and get hurt and disappointed and stomp around blaming everyone but themselves for their stupid sexual decisions and dashed hopes. (The problem is women having that sex without telling the men their relationship expectations. If these women had just stated what they wanted, they all might have avoided misunderstandings.)

What happens more often is that the men they have casual sex with are clear and up front and honest that they don't want relationships; but women fuck these guys anyway and become fuckbuddies or friends with benefits. Those women are getting fuckzoned. Women call these things "situationships" or "whateverships" because that sounds better and less like they're the ones being used or without "hand" in the exchanges. Then these women still bitch and complain and call these men their "boyfriends" when they're nothing of the sort. They're still not getting the relationships they want from these attractive men. Like I said, they're getting fuckzoned.

This is just like the "NiceGuy(TM)" and "friendzone" phenomena. Women bitch to high heaven about men who pretend to be friends then pounce on them with professions of "love". Or the hapless guy who expresses interest, gets told "let's just be friends", and then he stays there in the hopes he can parlay "friendship" into sex. Same thing.

Sex can be empowering for women if they are with a respectful partner who is good at sex, and having enjoyable sex outside a relationship is a good thing if everyone is having fun.

What is not fun is if on person feels pressured into society to be promiscuous, or engages in risky behaviour to feel validated. People in the latter situation may well decide they need to change the way they are living their lives.

Its normal to have different emotional responses to sex depending where you are in your life, and for some people they realise they need a change from something that is not for them, even if other people gain from doing the same thing.

Women and men are different

Women need emotional connection for sex. Women who say they don't are usaully already too far gone and slept with so many men they start looking at sex like a man and can have sex with no emotional connection (like a man can when he sees a sex worker)

Women having casual sex is damaging period. Studies support this.

Idk where you're seeing this, but if this is true and not something you're making up, here's my best guess:

The women you're talking about are realizing that sex with men is not worth it. Because, sadly, a majority of men don't make sex with them worth it. From not getting tested for STIs or not disclosing their status, to not picking up the slack in contraceptives and protection and putting it all on the women, to not trying to get her off, to even outright stealthing (especially in an anti-abortion society), women in your scenario are finding that sex with straight men is a crapshoot that, 8 times out of 10, doesn't fall to their favor. They still enjoy the freedom of not giving a fuck what others think about their bodily choices, they just wish the choices resulted in better skilled lovers.

It's probably another factor in the growing lonely male epidemic, as women are opting more into toys instead of partners, or giving lesbianism a go.

Taking control of your sexuality is empowering.

Having sex with an attentive partner is a fun time. Can also be empowering.

Being treated like shit? Not empowering.

It comes from halfway deconstructing toxic ideas of purity, but not building up self esteem & subsequently getting treated like shit.

The sentiment is, essentially: friends with benefits is a great idea in theory…too bad men are bad at friendship.

not sure about the “empowering” part, but sex can be an extremely intimate and vulnerable act and doing it outside of the bounds of a loving relationship can make some women feel emotionally overexposed - hence the need some women feel the need to “heal” from casual sex.

Emphasis on “some”. Everyone is different.
