Cool story bro. So it's OK for her to not settle for someone unless they meet her criteria, (which is fair) however if men do the same it's not, despite men having to make the first move.

A few decades ago the majority of men were married so young they never knew the pleasure of having ample money for your hobbies and interests, and a home of your own instead of a dingy "man cave" in the basement or whatever that the wife allows you to have.

My father's and uncles' generation married right after high school, then almost all started to get divorces in their forties. By then though, they owed so much alimony and child support they were working all the time and still kind of broke anyway.

As you say, OP, this article is written for women, as if they're trying to keep a dirty secret from men: being able to keep 100% of the money you work for (after taxes) and having your own home is fucking AWESOME.

Having a wife or even a high maintenance girlfriend is living life on hard mode. Yeah it sucks feeling horny all the time with no partner, but imagine you have a partner but she's a 40, 50, or even 60 year old out of shape possibly post-menopausal wife with low libido, so you get a tiny man cave in an enormous house you have to pay for, you work 40+ hours a week but you have to argue over every penny with the wife, and somehow there's never enough money anyway with so much constant redecorating and upgrading everything in the home all the time.

Basically an exhausting almost sexless life with a woman you're not that attracted to anymore vs. the alternative.

1) The slant or message the author wants to get across. It's rare to find any writing that investigates any situation without one.

2) The target audience of the article. In this case, it's not the people subscribed to this sub.

3) If discussion of an article is moderated (This one is). If so, then comments and discussion is usually filtered in service of points #1 and #2.

Speaking as someone who dates and has been in relationships with women in the 40's and 50's, I would say men don't have a monopoly on behaving like spoilt adolescents. In my experience a significant number of them are incredibly entitled, immature and believe that they have no responsibility for their problems. And I'm talking about mothers with children, who should know better.

Write similar articles for men. There are places that will publish then. Not the guardian, but other places. That's how you get things started.

All I see are people pointing at flaws, pointing at media for not giving enough attention, calling all women and all feminism bad. Few rights about women getting equal punishment for crimes (not sure how that is a victory; does nothing to improve men's rights or forward the issue of men's rights).

Very few posts about things people are doing for men's rights.
