Don’t use social medias to determine whether it’s worth it or not - take a look at your social circle or at your desirable social circle/outcome.

People tend to share more negative things online and we tend to notice and remember more negative content than positive. So it both skews the sample you’re using and gives you your own bias based on a skewed sample.

You should think whether you yourself want to get married and why. What kind of relationship you want to have, what your goals, preferences and boundaries are etc. It’s a personal choice, not something universally (un)worthy.

On a personal note, yes, marriage is worth it in my eyes. We’ve been through thick and thin and I think we’ve gone together further than we could have on our own. I enjoy having a partner, lover and a friend, all in one person. Sure, there is work put into our relationship, sometimes we’re both stressed and sick, there are daily chores, there are financial problems, there are our families and friends that also require time and efforts. Still worth it.

I enjoy living alone, but I wouldn't terribly mind living with a partner.

I wouldn't just delegate all the household chores to them, though. I've been doing it myself for over 10 years now so I'd handle my share.

Yes, there's a point if that's what you want and there's no point if it's not what you want.

Why do guys think we're supposed to beg and plead for them to want marriage and children? Think about what you want, and then... just... do that?

BUT: they honestly make marriage sound terrible, just a never-ending succession of chores, work and responsibility.

This is literally life, with or without marriage and/or children.

I started a family knowing that it will be a sacrifice. I'll agree if you say it's cringe, but I truly believed, and do believe, that my genes deserve a second chance with a slightly better childhood than the one I've had. I'm tired as hell, and I insanely want to lock myself up for three months in a small house with unlimited sleep time, food delivered, and a cellphone switched off. But I never expected sunshine and rainbows.

There is just a deep emotional need to have have a family that men have programmed into them from the creator. It's just very risky here in the west and the odds of it working out are against you. So every man needs to decide for himself if it's worth the risks.

And house choirs is a very stupid complaint considering all the financial and psychological stress that men have to shoulder.

I do agree marrying modern day in the west is risky however those Reddit stories aren’t a good way to gauge relationships.

There’s good and bad relationships. People in bad relationships tend to complain on forums to vent they frustration or people might even create fake stories so they can karma farm since people love drama.

Meanwhile, people in good relationships just enjoy each other and if they do post stuff online it’s mostly photos of them together or celebrating a milestone.

I’d say marriage as a legal contract in the state of the modern economy and legal system doesn’t make much sense and has been reduced to basically a social fashion accessory that doubles as a financial sword of Damocles over one’s head.

Both men and women have played a role in the demise of marriage as a crucial civilization building institution. It’s a tough question on how to fix it. It would require major sacrifices from both parties that I doubt either would be willing to make.

I'm a divorced woman with children, and I'd get married again, I'd just be more careful who I married.

That said, my ex husband was great until after we were married.... that's when it all started.
