Hi all! I know we usually focus on romantic relationships but I’d love RPW minded advice for a parental one, mainly dad actually lol. This community has grounded me so many times.

I (25f) live at home with my mom and sister but I’ve been strongly contemplating moving out with my boyfriend for a while now. This household has become extremely toxic and stressful and I share a room with my sister (14) so I think overall it’s about time I move out. I also love my boyfriend to bits of course!!

My boyfriend and I graduated last December and he moved back home (2 hrs away). His parent’s home has a studio we can go live in while we wait to enter grad school (back in my city) so ideally we’d love to get engaged and move in together, giving my sister her personal space as she’s growing and also leaving the stressful environment.

I’m Christian, as is my dad, and my goal was always to be married before moving in. But due to my home life getting worse I think I need to move out like, yesterday LOL, for everyone’s mental being. I know my dad has objections to me getting married cause when it’s been brought up in the past he says I’m too young, haven’t experience a lot of life, I’m too soft etc. Objections will be even greater since I’m moving in before marriage. He knows my home life situation and agrees I need to leave, however we had discussed me moving in with my grandma or even with him. However, as much as I love them, there’s not adequate space for me and it’d be me conforming to other people’s lives in a way. I have the opportunity to start my own life and with a man I love, with a dedicated space for me and my things.

Anyone have any helpful advice or tips? How did everyone’s convos go once the time came??
