Women are extremely fickle in their emotions if they don’t have a high level of initial attraction, or a deeper level of emotional investment (i.e. they view you as a potential boyfriend).

Whether intentionally or unintentionally, women will often screen men by coming up with a last minute “problem” that comes up that causes them to cancel. This will often happen even a few hours before the date.

In the vast majority of instances, this means she is unsure about you. She has a very neutral level of attraction, where meeting with you isn’t a priority.

Sometimes life is messy and things come up, so you don’t always want to assume the worst, but the majority of the time she is making up an excuse as a test.

  • If you receive a last minute cancellation, respond with a brief, polite, ambivalent response. If she says a family issue came up, a good way to respond:

“No problem. If I can help in any way let me know”

  • Don’t suggest re-scheduling the date in any way. Don’t express disappointment, don’t be over the top with your offer to help, don’t even tell her to contact you at a later point

  • You want to convey that this her last time talking to you. Focusing on a expressing polite offer of assistance, without any promise or desire to meet at later point conveys this. Express a polite a response that focuses solely on her excuse for cancellation. If she says a work issue came up:

“No worries. Hope everything works out”

  • Don’t use exclamation marks, emojis, or express a desire to see her. This conveys that she can cancel on you whenever she wants and you’ll still be available. This would be an incorrect response:

“Awwww. No worries! Disappointed, but I get it. Would really still like still see you, let me know if you’d still be interested to meet up again. Hope everything with work turns out ok”

  • Once you respond (hopefully correctly) you have to assume that she is not interested in seeing you. The ball is 100% in her court now.

  • Often times, if a man responds correctly, the “problem” will get magically solved. The family issue is resolved, or she doesn’t have to deal with the work issue. This is because you demonstrated that you don’t act weak or lose your shit when she attempts to cancel. The ability to stay cool when things come up is extremely attractive.

  • If she cancels her cancellation, it’s up to you on how to proceed. Be mindful that she likely wasn’t respectful of your time initially, and was somewhat neutral in how she felt about you. You don’t always want to be rigid and assume the worst. Something truly might have come up for her. But your correct handling of the cancellation might have only bumped up her attraction to you slightly, it doesn’t mean she’s highly attracted to you at this point.

  • If she exhibits similar behavior, it’s best to move on. The two strike rule is in effect. She either doesn’t respect your time, or isn’t truly excited about seeing you. If she truly has issues with scheduling, it shows a lack of organization and ability to manage her life as an adult. Those type of relationships rarely are enjoyable.
