If it is an actual gift card (and not a certificate) it is unlikely that she will be able to tell distinguish the difference between it and an ordinary credit card if you're smooth about it.

I think I wouldn't judge for a date using a gift card if they spoiled me with it. Drinks, appetizers, good entre, and dessert to go.

But if I felt like a dude wanted to take me to a certain place just because he had a gift card, I might think he was a little cheap. So when you're discussing where to go, I'd probably be like, "I've got a giftcard for this one place that I need to get rid of which could be fun to spend together, or we could go here or there."

But I'm a weird chick. I'm more comfortable with frugal people than I am with dudes who throw money around like their cock.

Honestly though it may not be the best option, I highly doubt it will make or break you... Using a gift card doesn't automatically disqualify you from any chance of getting with this girl, and vice versa.

Yes, it's bad form. Not every girl will look down on it, but enough will that it's not worth it.

If it's a small gift card, it's no huge loss.

If it's a large gift card -- you shouldn't be spending that much money on a first date.

Don't do it. Gift cards are better than something like a restaurant.com coupon, but not by much. If you really want to do it, you could walk to the bathroom after the meal and just give it to the waiter.

Just thinking out loud here, I think it would be slightly negative if you paid with a gift card in a kind of meek way, however, maybe you could be super upfront about it and use it as a prop to tell a cool story or something. I don't know, I'm just thinking outloud.
