Hello Seddit. It has come to my attention lately that there is no real guide for body language on this subreddit. As a guy who likes to think that he is very well-aware of his and others' body language (I've actually studied it and read books completely dedicated to that), I want to give you guys some pointers for good body language for conversation, which can be the opening for kino. We'll analyze body parts, starting with the feet and ending in the head (some random food for thought will also be provided):
The feet - the feet tell you where the body wants to go. Look at where a girl's feet are pointing. Pointing sideways? Neutral. Pointing to the exit? Not interested/bored. Pointing towards you? Keep doing what you're doing. The direction your conversation partner's feet are pointing at will tell you just how much you manage to draw them into the conversation.
The legs - here's a nice question: why do men find women's legs so attractive? Let's first look at what the difference is between men's and women's legs. Why are men, in general, better athletes during later ages, but are more or less on the same level with women during childhood? If you look at how a woman runs (except for the real athletic women out there), you will see that her feet sway slightly more to the sides than that of men. Why? Because that space is needed in order to accommodate childbirth. So understand why we find this area of the body attractive - long legs hint at the ability to accommodate childbirth, because they can split further to the sides. Now, how do you use this to your advantage? Think about how the legs can be used to protect one's genitalia. Therefore, we can come to the following conclusion: the more open one's legs are, the more relaxed they are. Of course, with women, the legs can also form an IOI - crossing their legs, for example, in order to show that they can bend to the necessary length necessary for childbirth (this is not done on a concious level, though).
The abdomen area (crotch and butt): well, this is self-explanatory, really. The butt of the woman is an access route to her vagina, yadda yadda yadda. By the way, women like a man's butt because a good butt hints at healthy muscles in that area which are necessary in order to be able to thrust well while mating. If a woman compliments you on your butt, keep that in mind. ;)
The chest & torso - why do we men love boobs? It's because, like many other parts of the body, are used to take care of the young ones (breastfeeding). The same is true for men - a large torso indicates healthy and well-exercised body, which is useful for carrying stuff around (whatever it is we hunted, for example). Now, remember, as a man, you want to show off that torso you've got. Show to the world that you're not this skinny guy who gets broken by a simple gust of wind. This will also make the woman feel, on the subconscious level "Oh, he's showing off his masculine character to me! He's interested in me! Yay!"
The arms and hands - extremely important. Use them while talking. DO NOT BE A FUCKING TALKING POLE. Use your hands to illustrate what you say. Not too much, of course - when listening, I recommend tucking your thumbs in your pockets and expanding your chest. Why's that? Well, the chest shows off your masculine capabilities, but your arms are down. What do we use our arms for? Self-defence! This means that if you cross your arms, you are defending your torso, which is a closed-off position, when it comes to body language. Even moreso, it has been proven that if someone is standing with closed body language, it affects their mind.
The hands can be used to know if someone is telling the truth. What do little kids do when they tell a lie? They hide their mouth behind their hand. Remember that. It can be something as subtle as standing, with the hands at your side, but if your palms are facing inwards, you will look as if you are hiding something. Why is that? Because the palm of our hand is where we hold our weapons. When you say that you grab something, use your hand to illustrate that, it will also help whoever is listening get sucked in to the conversation. Of course, don't give the girl the image of how you fingered your ex-girlfriend. Or maybe you would, I dunno, never tried that.
Also, be mindful of the girl's wrists - a girl's wrists are pretty vulnerable spots for pressure. Therefore, if she is showing you her wrist (even while blowing out smoke of a cigarette), it means that she is probably attracted to you in a way that she trusts you to not harm her wrists.
The neck and shoulders - the neck and shoulders are some of the most vulnerable areas in the entire human body. A woman's shoulders and neck have a lot of neural receptors (same is true for the man, by the way). Therefore, we find that area attractive, because we know how good it feels when someone touches it right. It's that simple. So, how to use this to your advantage? Is her neck revealed (e.g. tilting her head to the side while listening to you)? Is she brushing something off of her shoulders real quick? If so, it means that she is sort of inviting you to touch that areas, showing attraction. It's as if she's saying "I like you. You can move further." (of course, this is all subconscious 99% of the time).
Head - the head contains our brains. There are so many parts of the head that I can go through, but I will start by analysing one of the most common and important uses of the face - smiling. It's quite weird, really - you show your teeth and you squint your eyes, showing offensive and defensive capabilities at the same time ("I will bite you, don't mess with me!" and "I squint my eyes, so I protect my primary sense - sight!"). Somehow, we humans got weird enough to interpret a smile as "Hey, I'm not dangerous!" What the fuck, right?
Now, then, moving on about the head - why do we like kissing? Why is it a form of affection only within humans and our ape-cousins? Much like the neck, the lips are also full of receptors. We use the lips in order to test for dangers on the food - if something has really small spikes or thorns on it, you can roll it around your lips and you will feel it quite quickly, without harming your tongue. Thus, full lips show that this person knows how to find food (again, this is subconscious) and is thus a fit partner.
The eyes - did you know that men and women look at stuff in different ways? No, really, I mean physically look at things differently. Men have got the ability to look better across long distances, while women have better peripheral vision ("Where's the cheese?" "Right in front of you!" "I can't see it!"). Now, then, you can use the eyes to know how someone is feeling or even a bit how they are thinking. Something important: when we see something we like, our pupils dilute (become larger), as if we want to see more of that in our world. Even moreso, when we see something with diluted pupils, we like it, as well (that's why we find babies so adorable many times)! A fun little tip - when one's eyes are going to their top-right, it means they are recalling something. When the eyes go to the top-left, it means they are making something up. Very useful to call people out on their lies.
One more thing that I find important is how to recognize a genuine smile - a real smile is not ear-to-ear, and it's more than a smirk. I wrote about how smiles are actually counter-intuitive when it comes to body language, so think about that for a moment. A smile touches three areas - your mouth, your cheeks and your eyes (when you squint them).
I hope this guide has been useful for you, and let me know if you got any questions! Game on!
