Context: Vodka bar. Set of HB9's flaked on my friends & I.

For Sedditors: The venue we were at has a special service where if you order a bottle of vodka & don't finish it, they store it with your name on it in their cellar up to a year. You can come back any time and finish the remaining of your bottle.

** Approach solid HB8 bartendar, wearing a Russian beret:**

  • Told her we have a bottle from before - process begins...

HB8: What's the name under?

Buddy: I don't know, might be BuddyName, Pua_Inception, or AnotherPersonName.

HB8: Do you know the brand of vodka?

Buddy: Uhhh.... not too sure....

I quickly interrupt.

  • Big grin, pleasant tone.

Me: Ok, I'll admit it. I want to be able to help you ... but last time.. we were in no state to remember answers to these type of questions.

HB8 laughs.

Me: Let's just make this simple. Let's get another bottle while you have someone look for the other one.

Overview:

  • We weren't making much progress with locating old bottle.
  • Light DHVing: Did not want to be annoying - took charge & just came up with simple plan.

The Russian Hat:

HB8 continues to laugh. We make arrangements to go to vodka cellar to sample bottles. The vodka cellar is a very cold room.

Me: I'm loving your hat! Can I wear it while we're in the vodka cellar? It will help me stay warm.

HB8: I have a better idea.

  • HB8 goes away and comes back with an Ushanka (Russian style hat)
  • I get HB8 to put the hat on me.
  • Proceed to vodka cellar with buddies & HB8. In the cellar, did light teasing with HB8.

Throughout the night:

We'd run into each other and continue light teasing, lots of smiling and laughing.

Daybreaker & Hahahboo:

  • Got to meet daybreaker? & hahaboohoo - we're having a good conversation.
  • HB8 shows up

HB8: I'm sorry, I have to take the hat! It's suppose to be for staff only.

Me: You can't do that! We still have to take our photos with our hats!

  • HB8 adjusts my hat to "ensure" it looks good - light kino with her
  • We take a regular pose

Me: Wait, we need to take a photo saluting for Mother Russia!

  • Another photo saluting.

Continued teasing all night:

All I remember below..

Me: Do you remember that feeling when you forgot your ring or necklace at home & you feel naked without it? That's how I feel with out the hat!!

#-Closing Bartender:

  • The vibe & energy between her/I was fun & warm. Decided to #-close.

Credit goes to hahaboohoo - mind went blank & couldn't come up with a plan/approach. Tip: "tease her, qualify her & plan a date." Thanks - helped me out big time.

  • Approach the bar w/ HB8 - there is a plaque where I'm standing that says "Reserved for XYZ"

Me: If anyone asks..... I'm XYZ.

HB8 laughs. "Ok XYZ".

Me: You come off as the innocent type - the type of girl that likes to follow the rules & play it safe.

HB8 grins. "yehhhh I am! I can't help it"

(In my head: "WRONG ANSWER. You are suppose to say No I'm not!!")

Me: That's a shame. I like a girl who likes a sense of adventure.

HB8: I do! I do like going on adventures. (Getting excited)

Me: Oh do you? Good. Stay here - I have to go to my friends but I have something you may like.

  • I come back to the bar - HB8 is serving a customer.

  • I then watch the HB8 tell the next few customers she will be right back and walks all the way to where I am standing, puts her hands on the bar, leans in, rests her head on the her hands, looking up into my eyes.

  • Big grin on my face

Me: Listen to this. Have you ever been on a segway before? (Answer: No). You will love it. It's got 2 wheels and you honestly feel like you will lose your balance all the time. You'll laugh and have so much fun from trying to lean and drive this thing. Come with me to the XYZ location, we'll wear our hats and drive around XYZ on Segways.

HB8: That sounds so much fun but I don't think my boyrfriend would appreciate that.

Me: Shame

  • HB8 departs to serve other customers.

Follow up:

  • Despite what happened - I did not want to leave with the image of "just another guy trying to pick her up."

  • I approached her to thank her for the hat, good times, etc & we hugged (I initiated the hug).

HB8: (Blah blah blah.) By the way, I really liked your idea. It sounds like I would have had so much fun on a date with you.

Overview:

  • Vibe was very good & warm between both of us.
  • Confidence/energy - felt it was there & adequate (could still use improvement)
  • So glad I was drinking VERY lightly - I don't want to be the "drunk" customer asking the attractive bartender out. I got goosebumps when I was going in for #-close (good sign for me - means booze isn't affecting me).
  • Why I left in between #-closing process? I don't really know. I think I was trying to build suspense & anticipation.
  • Good Kino - Was light but I felt it was appropriate.

  • Before I would ask for # - happy I attempted to paint a date idea instead. I could probably have painted/story-told it better; I don't think I brought out enough emotions from her. Nonetheless, still an improvement.

  • My friends suggested for me to play it up a bit & come back another time to #-close. I'm really happy that I just took the shot that night there & then.

Next time:

  • Continue work on confidence & body language. Slow down my voice.
  • Get a microphone/recorder - I can't remember everything.
