I'm not sure this is enough information.

If I cold approach, and the girl initially doesn't like me but I show value and wait for her to give me hints before I turn the conversation personal and sexual, then I think it counts on me.

Bottom line, it doesn't matter, just approach regarless of any hints you get.

I'll chime in. My game consists of watching out for these IOIs. This is absolutely the case in my experience at least in a bar/club setting. I walk around and just chill. Then they will typically just come to me (dance around me or whatever). Then I will see their IOIs and move in. I rarely randomly cold approach a girl to see if she likes me. Girls are always scanning the room. Just like we can look around and instantly know who the hot chicks are, girls can do the same. My "statistics" are probably way high because I already know before I talk to the girl if she is interested. No IOIs, then I move on. Nothing said.

You'll develop your own style with time. I'm not saying my way is the only way. I bet guys can slowly turn up the attraction but I think this is a lot of work and you'll blow out most of the time (no, sorry, a number close is not a success; it's a failure most of the time).

I read the same thing in a book that scientifically studied attraction. Wish I could remember the title , I read it years ago when I worked for my college Library.

Having eye contact always helps. It's an approach invitation (or so we would like to believe) and will help you approach to stick. But you can't rely on them at all. Most bars are swarming with stimulus, so to make yourself known usually means a "cold" approach.

Don't let lack of eye contact stop you from getting on that shit.

Even if you're in that 10% of men who are initiators, playing the numbers game, what is wrong with the numbers game? That's fine, you'll still get laid.
When you approach a girl, sometimes you don't even know why. That's the 90% of the time. So there's really no difference in a PUA's reality whether he "approached" or got an "IOI" or an "AI". It makes no difference at all, the point is he found his balls and started some shit.

I think they're overemphasizing to make a point. While it's not 90%, if you are cognizant of your surroundings, you will start to notice subtle hints that women would like to be hit on. However, this is not something in the community we teach because it breeds inaction. Better to just keep approaching. You don't get better by waiting for someone else to invite you to action.

I largely disagree with this, simply because of the sheer amount of girls I've approached who weren't even looking at me beforehand.

I don't think I can trust that study to give an accurate breakdown, because there's all kinds of outliers and unique situations involved with both approaches. And here's why, mainly:

Can a PUA break these statistics and be more successful regardless of a woman's IOI's?

Of course he can. A charismatic, alpha, cool motherfucker is able to build attraction and comfort. He doesn't need to look for IOIs first. The main issue I have with that article is it presupposes that physical attractiveness is the make-or-break part, and we all know that isn't true. What makes you attractive is a mixture of shit, but most importantly your personality. You have the opportunity to show off that personality whether the girl's giving you signals or not.

I think even more important though is that this article is looking at the perspective of both parties. It's not looking at the guy's perspective in itself. If your perspective is to assume attraction, no matter the situation, you'll probably have more success than the guy who's waiting around for IOIs. I have no studies to back it up, but it's more of a mindset issue anyway, and there's probably no way to quantify it and get some data on it.

I feel like it's more numbers, but not entirely. Lately especially, when I come into a bar/club, I look around a bit to see if any chicks are looking at me. If so, I file that info away for later, once I get a drink and chill for a second. Then, maybe I'll go up to them, assuming I don't see someone better.

But I've had 0 luck with chicks who were staring me down, and good luck with chicks who never looked at me before I approached them. Go figure. So I wouldn't worry about that too much.

Hm. Before I learned game I was scared to death to approach women and wouldn't escalate until I knew it was in the bag. I'm good looking enough to have gotten laid by maybe a dozen women that way.

These days I approach way more women and get rejected way more often. Statistically my success rate is probably lower, but I'm positive my absolute number of successes is higher than it otherwise would be.
