If you buy small stuff and she buys odd stuff, it's fine. It's not fine if she generally doesn't pay.

And what would be the proper way to approach this, like if we were getting ice cream and on line together, do I order mine, pay for it, and let her do the same for herself?

If its little shit like ice cream or coffee ill grab it for the sole reason ots easier to do one transaction than two. I dont pay for drinks or food, unless we go seperate rounds. Dont make it a big deal and youll be good to go.

Answer to edit: if they bitch about splitting the bill, determine if its just a shit test or genuine bitchiness. If a shit test, just say she hasnt earned that kind of attention yet. If actual bitchiness, pay ur shit then gtfo

Today I went on a date with this girl. We met at a cafe and I told her that I dont like the coffee selection but she can buy herself anything if she likes something. When we were passing by other cafe I told her 'Im gonna grab a coffee'. So I paid for my drink and she for hers. Hope that helps you ;)
