How is life for singles in San Diego, California?

San Diego is not all sailors, meth dealers, and surfers. It's a melting pot, full of different people from many different places. You will see them (I don't know about meth dealers), but there are plenty other people.

That said, there is plenty of nightlife over here. You could go downtown to the Gas Lamp, to PB (pacific beach) which is full of bars and women. Mission and ocean beach (ob is kind of full of hippies) have cool bar scenes too. North Park and South Park are kind of hipsterish, but they are pretty cool.

I would do some research, this is one of the most expensive city's to live in. But yea, it's a cool place.

I lived in San Diego 8 years from 2005 to last June. The downtown night scene is pretty much bratty girls that will only pay you attention if they see you stepping out of a Lambo, Cougars, and couples. During the day, is so-so for daygame as most young people are in the universities. Pacific Beach's night scene is okay, full of college chicks, but you need to know people to have a good time, the girls there are looking for alpha males, leaders of the pack, guys with social skills. During the day, daygame can be very productive, perhaps you can take some surfing lessons and become a regular at the beach, a pale Milwuakee boy is certainly not gonna get much attention compared to a blondie Cali-surfer dude with lots of pot to share with the ladies at his place, know what I mean? In all honesty, if you're moving there by yourself and don't know anybody, you're probably not going to enjoy it. Also, you not liking what Milwuakee has to offer might be a valid excuse, I'm not questioning that, but sometimes guys don't try to work what they have around them and then complain that what they have around is not good enough for them.

Can you tell me what you dislike about Milwaukee? I will have a job there. I have other options too but for me, living in a fun city for young 20-something singles is VERY important. Please let me know!

San Diego predominantly skews young. Even if people are in there late twenties or early thirties like pretty much act like they're 22. Once people reach a certain maturity level, almost universally they leave to the outer suburbs or to another city entirely. Whoever is calling it hipstery has never been to Brooklyn. It's a beach town that's never grown up. The traffic isn't too bad but it's not a "big city" in terms of nightlife and things to do. If you like to eat it's a city with profoundly bad restaurants and foodie culture for the size it is.

If you like a "frat" type atmosphere you will find the going is pretty good. The navy influence in terms of San Diego culture and nightlife is minimal if any. In terms of actual culture and a diverse scene you are much better elsewhere. It is absolutely nothing like Milwaukee at all. LA and San Francisco are both great and I would recommend those to you over San Diego if they are options for you.

Consider that San Diego is a Navy port and major military site. The bars are full of aggressive, drunken asshole sailors. The people I knew in SD were mostly surfers and meth dealers, just to give you an example of the civilian population. I would suggest a long term research project, you could start by reading local SD alternative newspapers like City Beat and the Reader.

Also, I was amused by this recent story.
