That is your answer, quit over analyzing it. She was under pressure and had a time constraint. She probably blew you out because you pushed too hard and that was the quickest way she'd be able to get back to studying.

It could seriously be anything. She could have had a boyfriend, just getting out of a bad breakup, not looking to date or hookup, just found out she has an STD, was nervous about the test, nerves got the best of her... etc.

As a girl, I can think of a few reasons to do this.

1) She was just being polite. I smile at random strangers all the time, because the other option is stone facing in their direction.

2) She was checking you out, and didn't want to seem flustered when you caught her looking.

3) She didn't want to get into it for a variety of reasons, first and foremost being the impending exam. Could also be that she's in a relationship, but enjoys the attention, so she didn't want to tell you about it to completely halt your advances.

4) She's onto your game. When I'm approached, I often just assume the guy is working me for sex. Sometimes I'm game, and sometimes I'm just not in the mood, or have zero interest in you. Just because you're attractive doesn't mean she finds you as such. There's pretty much only one shape of guy that gets my panties dropping, and the rest of them are meh.

Everyone gets blown out. Unless it's for the same reason 9 times out of 10, and there's something obvious you can do about it, you can probably just move on and not think too hard about it. There's not enough information here to really know what's going on in her head, so all we can do is guess.

Someone smiling doesn't mean they want to talk to you. Someone looking at you doesn't mean they want to talk to you.

It's a good enough excuse to find out, though. You did the right thing by finding out whether she was interested. She happened to not be interested. That's all.

Be happy with yourself. If you're not, build yourself up to a place where you are. Then you can approach anyone, and regardless of how badly you get blown out, or how wildly successful you become, you always have that baseline of self-satisfaction and happiness where you won't think that some stranger's opinion of you at that moment is some sort of huge commentary on your life and your value as a person.

How did you begin the conversation, what did you say, were you nervous, how was your body language, how long did you stay in set, how did you ask for the number, etc... we are missing a ton of information here... You could have fucked up during the interaction, or you may have not. You should post more information to get better feedback to see if it was your approach.

Here's the thing, most people in this board push the concept of assume attraction. I am a big fan of living a mindful life, where you are aware of everything that happens.

So, girl smiles at you, and you're wondering what that means.

Let me tell you, it means that she smiled at you!. So now you want to overcome AA but you don't know how to break the ice?

Let's me think, how about I noticed you smiled at me, and I could not help but smiling back, and wonder: why did you smile?

Or you could be funny Were you checking me out?, Do I look like the man of your dreams?

If she's really into you, if she's really attracted to you, it really doesn't matter much what you say (except for being a jerk or pushing too hard too soon).
