She actually describes something really important near the end. At first she talks about how the guy is kind of a jerk and abrasive, but the girl likes him anyway. THEN she mentions later on that the girl finds that her and the "jerk" have some things in common and that "that makes it really sweet".

This is exactly how it works in the real world. Attraction first, shared interests later. Girls will rationalize their attraction later and find any little thing they have in common with the guy. Notice that it rarely ever happens the other way around.. Many a man has thought that he would get a girl because they liked the same music, books, tv, ideology, whatever. It just doesn't work that way.

She dropped the bigger secret, that I think you missed. Stiles says it like it is, when she describes the "abrasive jerk" character connecting with the female "because they see they are actually similar".

Meaning, the heroine herself is an abrasive jerk, a bitch ass ho, inside. She knows it, girlfriends know it... Yet, BP world has her up on a fem-pedestal in the ambrosia clouds.

It sucks for women up on there. The cognitive dissonance of knowing you ain't shit, and yet being worshiped daily, that's gonna create serious psychological damage over time. And then it's all taken away from you abruptly, as a woman "in your prime" age 32, suddenly nobody gives you the time of day at all?

BP's betrayal of real women in favor of its own delusional ideal is brutal and conniving manipulation. The BP whirlwind takes them, feeds them feelgood lies at every step, uses them up, then dumps them with nothing to show for it.

At least the abrasive jerk can see the real woman in her. She'll fuck him while crying tears of joy, just for that.

I'd call this a "Slip Truth". It's similar to the "Trickle Truth" in that it comes from a woman's desire to express her feelings and then build a narrative around those feelings.

Stiles follows her Slip Truth with a Hamster Intercept, for damage control.

didn't mean "women" and just meant humans have this tendency.

The egalitarian argument is the go-to move for any sort of damage control when it comes to women's image.

If something can be denied/hamstered into oblivion, it will be, no doubt, every time.

If something is beyond deflecting/circle logic/hamstering - as in not easily played off (like her little slip there) the egalitarian argument levels the playing field back to "women and men are equal".

Whenever you see some undeniable shitty female behavior, you can bet there's going to be some chode (especially on reddit) to say something like "Not women, people are/do [x]". It's mental masturbation.

For the guys that do this - they see/read/hear some inconvenient truth that threatens the illusion (of the demure well-intentioned persona they automatically attribute to women) and they hamster their way back to escapism. The preferred methods are the NAWALT, the egalitarian argument and the "No True Scotsman" fallacy.

For the women that do this - it's damage control. They are at least semi-aware that a good image is essential to social success, especially when reality is so far...far away from that image. That's why it's always hilarious watching a woman ramble on, digging her own grave with rationalizations.

There's a chart here that explains where people's eyes go when they're either constructing truth or lies. If you look at the directions her eyes were going you can watch exactly when she's recounting something factual and when she's trying to make something up.

I swear sometimes I wonder if Y The Last Man comic might hve been telling the truth with that whole "Women have a hidden language they all speak" thing.
