First of all, you have a great story you can tell now.

Secondly, this proves an important point for approaching everybody needs to learn: some people are just fucked in the head, so if they reject you, ITS NOT YOUR FAULT. You had no idea she would be like that, but you gave it a shot anyway. You didn't do anything wrong, she did.

Rejection is not about you, it's about THEM. Sometimes they just don't like you, but a lot of times they just had a bad day, are shitty people, etc... It's not your fault and you can't let it get you down.

Obviously, it's too late, but if I were you, I would have answered "who said anything about sexuality? I approached you because you looked like an interesting person. Are you?"

I am not surprised that no one in this echo chamber has questioned how you approached this person. How did you approach this person? because if you were genuinely friendly, no one would be that hostile.

Secondly, it seems like you were literally talking to her just for sex perhaps, because if you weren't that would have been opportunity to have a real conversation with another person, you could have said "I apologize if I offended you, I haven't assumed your sexuality, I just wanted to have a friendly chat". Instead of laughing at, what could have been a genuine remark about her sexuality, and laughing because she might not be interested in you, you could have connected with them, which could have led to you being introduced to other people who might be interested in you, because you weren't an asshole.

See, that's how people treat other people when they aren't just objectifying other people.
