I've been SAHD since pregnancy, and educate our child at home. Now in middle school, but taking AP high school classes for college credit with 4.0 GPA. No abuse, addiction, or infidelity.
We had our mediation consultation at home. I had child set up in a bedroom with headphones.
Afterward, child wanted to talk again with both of us. She asked about the consult, "Are you guys okay?" Stbx said yes (she can't wait to get me out of the house). Instead of answering "no", I said, "I can't answer that".
In private, stbx said I was being manipulative, by answering the way I did.
TLDR? Stbx is divorcing me. I've known for two months. Child has known for a day. We both love her and she loves us back. Very smart and emotionally intelligent.
I'm the SAHD so child comes to me for emotional support. Mommy is frequently unavailable. I've been very careful not to vilify stbx to child. Child called stbx the antagonist in this story, and I said not to think of this in those terms. I've also said Mommy is not the bad guy here. But I won't lie to my crying child and tell her this divorce is mutual, that I want to leave our house.
After mediation consult, child asked if we were okay. Stbx said yes. I said, I can't answer that.
