To get yourself out of this mode, remember the phrase, “wait, let me guess.” That way, if you start to go interview mode and say something like, “How often do you come here?” you can answer yourself and say, “How often do you come here—wait, let me guess.” Then follow it up with an assumption, observation, or judgment. “You always come on Tuesdays for the trash can special.”
