You, me, we - are all part of a growing social trend with an unpredictable future. You are far from alone in your experience and many men have it far worse than you. Thanks to the internet younger men are aware of how bad marriages can go, and are wisely choosing not to marry in the first place.

The dark humour part is that it was women who started to abandon marriage, starting in 60’s and 70’s. Now men are belatedly agreeing with women and women aren’t happy.
