That bear in the picture actually looks pretty cute, and more like an adolescent bear than an adult. It reminds me of road trips in the Canadian Rockies, and how cars in the road would pull over to look at bears minding their own business, who happened to have wandered near the road. They would just stop their cars a reasonable distance away, secure in the knowledge that they need only hit the accelator and drive away if the bear were to suddenly charge at them.

The thing is, bears are unpredictable. You just don't know if a bear is hungry, or if there are cubs nearby that the bear is trying to protect. At least humans are governed by laws and generally follow them, with the vast majority of both men and women going through their entire lives without being convicted of any kind of violent crime. When it comes to humans we don't know well, some level of caution is warranted, and it's pretty well never as much caution as what people can actually be observed showing around bears without even being told. In fact, there was recently some minor controversy over some group claiming that elk were more dangerous than bears, with Parks Canada clarifying the difference between an "aggressive encounter" and an "attack". Basically, people actually need to be told that elk are not safe, and otherwise they seem to assume that because elk are herbivores, they are no threat to them (until they get too close and get kicked).

Okay, stop using death in your arguments. Please, it's dumb and death should not be used in the gender war, as dumb as some people are, this is inexcusable and should not be used to prove a point.
