Anyone else notice that as women are freed from what’s traditionally expected of them in relationships, what is traditionally expected of men in relationships has gotten much harsher?
As women are no longer expected to be housewives, to cook, clean, etc. (For the record this makes me very happy for them). Men on the other hand are expected to fulfill their “role” at even higher capacity. The man is pretty much always expected to be the financial provider. Even if his partner has a job of her own, he still has to make more than her and provide for the both of them.
It’s considered perfectly acceptable in society for you to say that men are meant to be providers. Meanwhile if you dare to say that women are “meant” to be literally anything in a relationship you will be quickly labeled a misogynistic pig.
I always supported the “breaking of gender norms” because I never liked the idea of forcing people to fit into a certain role. It’s for this very reason why I cannot stand most activists of that cause. Their activism and progressive viewpoints are reserved solely for women and women alone. In fact I find that these types ironically have THE MOST backwards views on what “role” men are meant to be shoved into. It’s blatant hypocrisy and exposes an inner nature of pure selfishness.
Most women today no longer fulfill their traditional role and yet still expect, no demand, that their partner fits HIS traditional gender norm. Once you start to realize how unfair this system is for men the less you are inclined to take part in it.
