STARTS to restrict men?

They've been forcing boys to fight, stoning gay men, and killing men for violations of faith and social order. What TF is this "start restricting" bullshit?

This article makes it seem like most Afghan men fully supported the taliban when only women were being affected, and then all the sudden they stopped supporting the taliban because of the new restrictions placed on them.

I don't think that this is a fair representation of what is going on for many reasons.First of all, We have to consider the fact that the consequences for speaking out against the taliban are extreme.You can be imprisoned or killed for opposing the taliban. I have a feeling that this is especially true for Afghan men, because the international community doesn't really care about the taliban killing afghan men which would likely make them even more vulnerable.

Also, Afghan men have to be the sole providers. So if they get imprisoned or killed who is gonna provide for their families? I think that these are major detterents to Afghan men protesting against the taliban.

Second, Afghan men were also being restricted under the taliban as well. The banning of western clothing and hairstyles is not new.The taliban also takes boys and uses them as child soldiers. Even though boys can go to school, the taliban has made school much worse then it was before by changing the curriculum to focus more on teaching about Islam, and removing important subjects.They also increased corporal punishment as well. Also, according to this Gallup poll the vast majority of men and women say their suffering under the taliban. So men were already suffering when the taliban tookover.

Third, it is inaccurate to say that Afghan men were silent from Day 1,because there has been multiple instances where they protested against the taliban.I don't see them mentioning this at all in the article. Men joined this protest to reopen girls schools in paktika province. There was this protest where male students walked out of their exams to protest the taliban's ban on women's education. 60 University professor also resigned in response to the taliban banning women's education, and one of them actually tore up his diploma on live tv. He was arrested by the taliban.This activist was also arrested for promoting girls right to an education. There were also many male news anchors who protested the taliban's rule requiring women to wear burqa's by wearing masks. This lead to a social media campaign called #freeherface.

Also, 3,000 of the 10,000 WILPF members in Afghanistan are men.

These figures may come as a surprise for those used to monolithic depictions of predictably patriarchal Afghan men. The cognitive double-take these numbers often elicit, reflects the limited space in international coverage given to the Afghan men who, while keeping a low profile,work alongside women activists for gender equality in the country.

So saying that Afghan men have been silent since day 1 discounts all of the Afghan men who have been fighting for women's rights, despite how dangerous it is.

I think what i read is more of a "see i told you so" article. That men should have stood up for women. Not concern for men and boys.

Well it’s women who are mostly on the left and support this madness. Look at the campus protests in support of Hamas last summer. Just like they blame men for crime on women but they are the ones who vote for soft on crime policies and candidates. Go figure
