Hey would appreciate some advice. Divorced about 18 months ago. Both high earners (she was making $150k per year). Agreed in the MSA to no child support. Well, my ex has always had trouble keeping a job and she lost this last one. She’s had 7 jobs in 10 years, fired from 4.

She didn’t tell me and I found out after 1) receiving a notice saying my daughter qualifies for free lunch (which I thought was some mistake) and 2) A letter in the mail from the state telling me that someone has opened up a child support case against me.

When I asked her about it, she denied it and it wasn’t until I called the Child Support office that I found out she has applied for government benefits. Which is when she finally confessed to being out of work for months. She says that she has not requested child support and the gov’t employee said that all that has been requested so far is SNAP.

My question is can she re-open child support negotiations even though we have an agreement for no child support? I gave her a large sum of money when we divorced, which I think she already went through. As soon as the divorce was final she booked herself a trip to Europe and I am assuming that’s where the majority of the money went. She has told me that while she hasn’t asked for child support, she may need to if she can’t find a job.

Appreciate any info you all can provide. Thanks.
