Work on developing your own set of convictions, ethics, and way to interact with the world.

Everyone is going to have a fucking opinion about how you live your life. If you want to live it for yourself, figure out what that's going to mean.

I love how masculinity is still important for young boys even in progressive places. Because even liberal women still expect men to adhere to gender roles. They just don't like it when those gender roles are forced on women.

That "believe in yourself" line can easily be translated to traditional masculine expectations for men.

Believe in yourself to be confident enough to approach or pursue women.

Believe in yourself enough to be ambitious and have money or status in society.

"Positive masculinity" is just toxic masculinity without the parts that harm women. It's just traditional masculinity with a Progressive aesthetic.

Focus on yourself first and foremost
Learn about red flags and how to avoid them
Treat people with respect unless they prove themselves undeserving
Never, and I mean never, ignore your emotions
Do not sleep around - it’s not a good thing
You do not have to get married
Find a hobby that interests you
Don’t join feminism
Don’t become a misogynist either
Find a good male role model in real life or fiction to aspire to

The mononormativity is strong with this one.

Why choose monogamy at all if you're someone who prioritize sexual novelty highly? That makes no sense at all. Unless of course he's just clueless enough to not really have internalized the idea that other relationship-structures exist.

Nothing at all wrong with monogamy for those people who want it, of course. It just doesn't sound as if this person is among them.

"Mansplain" is a loaded term, but this isn't BAD advice.

The problem is that it misses the point of the question. It doesn't say anything about becoming a good MAN, it's simply about being a decent person (mostly.)

Our culture is so terrified of accidentally teaching toxic masculinity that it never teaches boys any masculinity at all.
