According to the general definitions, not showing emotions or trying to appear stoic is considered "toxic masculinity". In actuality, not showing emotions or acting withdrawn is simply behavior and attitudes; it has nothing to do with what we call "masculinity," nor is such behaviour toxic, albeit taking a detrimental toll on the person himself. But said term extends not only to men but to boys as well. Let's say a man or a boy, who is in therapy after just having endured abuse and as a result turned emotionally withdrawn as a result of it (plus due to the whole expectation of males to not show vulnerability), and the psychotherapist tells him that he is exhibiting toxic masculinity-- the therapist is essentially telling him that he is exhibiting toxic behaviour, toxic attitude, and is therefore blaming him for his inability to open up. Hence, toxic masculinity is a blaming term. Just wanted to share this.
