They're only now starting to actually serve women with justice. In the past it was harder for women to be punished for their crimes. Women were treated even more leniently when they killed their babies and husbands and just crime in general. A man could also be held responsible for his wives crimes so no wonder why it's increasing.

This is such a good article to show up the typical bias when talking about women, since this one is honest and shows both absolute numbers AND percentages.

733k of women in prisons sounds like something feminists would put into a headline to drum up support, but below it shows that it's less than 10% of total prison population (which is 93.2% male).

It lists countries with highest amount of female inmates, but when adjusted for the population: China, Brazil and Russia just drop off the list (countries with high population count will have high amount of people in prison, go figure)

It would be interesting to quantify how much of this is due to egalitarian sentencing and how much is due to women possibly becoming more criminal. Maybe they always had high criminality and now they are just being punished for it more often (though still given a soft-touch comparatively).

As a betting man, id bet men get longer prison sentences, larger fines, long after prison supervision, and higher recidivism rates. Only a guess though.

It's sad that more people are killed or imprisoned overall.

Is this statistic checked for the effect of maybe in a situation where a state government could either take people as prisoners or kill them, they maybe lean toward killing men and imprisoning the women than the other way around?

Or is it some kind of saturation effect, in that in 2000 there were way more males imprisoned than women, and somehow the trend became towards more towards equality but still more new male imprisoned than female, but as a percentage, an equal amount of a small total amount is a higher percentage than an equal amount of a large total amount is a lower percentage?
