Corbie Jean Walpole, 24, pleaded guilty to burning a man with petrol after he made a misogynistic comment. The man sustained severe burns, spent 82 days in the hospital, and underwent 10 operations.

I bet she isn’t going to get much jail time for severely messing up his life. She will get a slap on the wrist and move on with her life.

A woman who angrily doused an “old friend” in petrol and set him alight for making a misogynistic comment was suffering from depression and substance abuse, a court has heard.

The first sentence attempts to justify the perspective. We are presented with it from the point of view of a woman who temporarily lost it and not from the perspective of a man who was assaulted and very badly injured.

Most of the group was heavily intoxicated, and Walpole had consumed cocaine.

So she was on drugs when she burned him. I don’t think that will affect the outcome at all.

“I was feeling overwhelmed by [Mr Loader’s] presence and I didn’t know what to do,” she told the court. Her anger then flared when Mr Loader told her she should stay in the kitchen making scones where she belonged, and not to go drinking with boys.

She left the table where they were drinking to collect a five-litre container of petrol from her garage, and poured it on Mr Loader before waving around her lighter. Mr Loader said, “Go on, do it,” before Walpole set him on fire.

So she got upset because of a few comments and decides to burn someone. Insults shouldn’t be met with violence. It doesn’t solve anything in this instance. I don’t think that him egging her on was a smart thing to do.

Mr Loader sustained burns to 55 per cent of his body, was in an induced coma for eight days, spent 74 days in a burns unit at Melbourne hospital The Alfred, and underwent 10 operations. Mr Loader can no longer expose his skin to the sun, and struggles with temperature regulation as his sweat glands were burnt off. He also lost income, and financial pressure was put on his family who travelled to be with him.

So he got severely burned and lost a lot of income because of it. He was in a coma for a week. His entire life is altered because of what Corbie Walpole decided to do while high. She ruined his life and it will never be the same.
