What you CAN do is report these apps for enabling illegal defamatory activities, privacy violations, and violations of App Store policies to help shut them down. Doing so will help you and many others. Search “tea app” on this sub and on AWDTSG subs for info on how.

Yeah I dumped a woman I was dating and living with for posting some foul stuff about me in a private woman’s group. I didn’t even tell her I saw it I just broke up with her and left. I never thought this kind of thing was going to get normalized. I’m absolutely not dating anymore, it’s literally unapologetically rigged.

I honestly think we could take the app down if enough people can sue for defamation. We could get a class action lawsuit going, and you don't have to have provable damages to sue for defamation, all you have to do is prove that what they are saying is untrue. It shouldn't be too hard to find women who are blatantly lying on there, then we contact the victims and help them sue the owners of the app for publishing the false information. We could even provide a cut for people who provide victims names who eventually lead to defamation suits.

It could be as easy as some woman posts all your details on the app claiming you ghosted her. But in reality, you did show up, but she left before you got there, and your phone had no signal because you were on the subway. Being late for a date and not having a signal is not the same as ghosting someone and could be seen as a wreckless disregard of the truth and a misrepresentation of your actions.

You can either not date, accept this is the reality, or take some kind of action to try and get it taken down.

Or reframe it. If a woman does defame you, bullet dodged. And if a woman downloads the app and immediately believes what some other random person said? Bullet dodged. In a way this isn't that much different than how things used to be. Before the internet people dated and word got around about them, often after going through the grapevine the rumors were far worse than any truth.

Honestly I didn’t hear about the Tea App before going on this subreddit. A bit of out of sight and out of mind might do you some good.

I understand the anxiety, but the reality is most people will forget your face unless you do something truly bad to them personally. Anyone who is looking at an app every second is looking for a distrust they already have.

You vet women better before dating them, don’t just date someone because they give you attention.

It also helps to be a masculine man treating women with respect and the chance of being posted go down dramatically.

If you’re posted on there, there’s been several posts that say if you file a copyright claim with Apple they will remove it.

Instead of the fear mongering, we should be helping each other overcome this shit by finding a lawyer who will proceed with a class action suit, that’s how it’s done.

There is not now and never has been a time or place where people weren't able to lie and gossip about you.

It's not like in 1950s women could gossip and tell lies at the bake sale. It's not like in the 1600s they couldn't gossip and tell lies in the sewing circle.

Same goes for men, or, well, anyone. People gossip and lie. It's just a thing humans seem highly prone to do.

People can tell lies about you right now on Facebook if they wanted to, or here on reddit, or on X or anywhere.

Tea is just an app version of a gossip circle. So, how can you date? The exact same way you always have. You have never lived in a world where people weren't able to say bs about you behind your back, particularly spiteful exes. Tea is nothing new. It's just an app version of a social mechanism that has always been there.

The only real difference is that, just like how so many of our social interactions have moved online and been universalized, so to have the gossip circles. This is just another gossip circle in the terminally online era.

if you're worrying this much about your potential behavior somehow being misconstrued there and you suffering real life consequences, then you should probably be worried about said misconstruing even if you don't date anyone. which is to say that the odds that it has much of a real-world impact on your life is slim to none and you are probably better off not stressing about it so much
