Alright boys. This is how I, a regular blue-collar dad in Michigan, walked into a “mother state, mother county” courtroom — no lawyer, no backup, just my suit and my balls — and walked out with joint custody, a safety clause to keep random dudes away from my kids, and child support slashed so hard it felt like a Black Friday sale.

The Setup I’ve got 4 kids. My ex? Let’s just say she makes questionable choices with men. We’re talking:

•Domestic violence boyfriends

•A sex offender actually living in her house at one point

•CPS cases stacking up like parking tickets

Meanwhile, I’ve been working, steady, consistent, showing up for my kids. I tried everything the “right” way — talked to CPS, talked to probation officers, documented everything. Every time? Crickets. So when the inevitable happened (yep, domestic violence right in front of my kids), I said screw it, filed an ex parte, and took it straight to the judge.

The Lawyers Who Laughed at Me. Earlier this year, I sat across from attorneys who wanted $10k retainers just to start. They all said the same thing: “She’s a mess, Nothing you can do.”

I told them, “Watch me.”

Bonus twist: this year new judges got voted in. Attorneys were whispering, “We don’t know how these new judges are gonna act.” Well, I found out. Mine acted like a man who was tired of the bullshit.

Court Day: Me vs. The World So yesterday, my ex strolls in with her lawyer. I stroll in with nothing but a suit that’s basically my armor. Judge looks at me and goes: “You know what you’re agreeing to?” I said, “Yes Your Honor. I just want safety and stability for my kids.”

Here’s what went down: •Custody: 50/50 joint custody on everything. She begged for sole legal on medical stuff for our son’s autism. Fine. Take it. I don’t care. I got the rest.

•Safety Clause: On record — no more random men around the kids unless both parents agree. In other words: her dating life just got put on pause by a judge. 🤣

•Child Support: I was originally paying 245/week and her side asked for $200/week until she found full-time work (She folded and wanted to be nice). Judge pulled up the calculator on the spot and said: “Nah, it’s $131/week for 4 kids.” Let me repeat: $131/week. For four kids. My jaw hit the floor. Even she didn’t realize until the clerk handed us the paperwork.

Aftermath •She walked out looking like she’d just been steamrolled by a semi.

•Her lawyer smiled and was weirdly nice to me (probably relieved they didn’t have to go 12 rounds).

•I rode the elevator down with both of them, and you could cut the tension with a knife. Me? I was just smiling, trying not to laugh.

Now my ex she’s suddenly all sweet with me on the phone, like: “Oh, you’re welcome 😊” when I thank her for picking up the kids. Yeah, no kidding. She knows I’ll drag her ass right back to court if she tries anything.

The Lesson for Dads •Don’t let fear or lawyers drain your wallet. Learn the process and learn the language of court AI is free it will tell you what it means.

•Document EVERYTHING!!!!! Emails, text messages, school concerns, doctors visits literally everything. You need dates and times this helps build your exhibits to put in front of the judge makes his job easier. (Buy yourself a printer as well 40-50 bucks at Walmart)

•Keep calm in court and speak only to safety and stability for your kids. Judges don’t care about emotion I’m in a big city where they get tons of cases everyday. They don’t care your ex is falling apart mean or doing things wrong. Remember black and white.

•And for the love of God, wear a suit. It’s like a cheat code. It seriously is you wouldn’t believe how people show up in front of the judge wearing jeans Jordan’s all crazy types of things. You want the to show the judge you respect his court room and your there for your kids.

Final Thought I’m not a lawyer. This is not legal advice. I’m not rich. I’m just a dad who refused to quit. So if you’re out there thinking you don’t stand a chance, that the system is too rigged, that you need to cough up $10k to even get a word in — remember my story.

I walked in with nothing but a suit and my balls and exhibits the courts couldn’t ignore… and walked out with joint custody, safer kids, and child support cut in half.

Stay strong, brothers. Court is just another battlefield. And sometimes, the underdog wins.

I also want to note I know each scenario is different. The point of this is just don’t give up. I literally went through hell. And I’ll be blunt it’s not easy I’ve lost my father rights multiple times during this divorce and it takes time filing motions and objections that’s why lawyers get paid so much.
