Looking for perspective from dads who’ve been through this.

Still married but emotionally separated. Separate rooms, communication is mostly about the kids and logistics. We have an agreement to keep things calm and not make major moves until after the holidays for the kids. I’m honoring that.

I’m turning 47 soon. This would be my second divorce with kids. My first marriage child is 16, and these two now are 6 abs seven. I’m already financially stretched as the sole provider, so court is not an option. If this moves forward, I’m committed to a mediation first approach. I’ve been preparing quietly so I’m not making decisions out of emotion when the time comes.

I’m staying focused on being present for my kids and keeping things respectful, but the waiting period is heavy and mentally draining. I know this pain will be in my body a long time and I’m dealing with that .

For dads who’ve done this: How you got through the waiting period What actually helped (or hurt) with mediation What you did early on to protect yourself financially without escalating

Appreciate any straight advice.
