A good way to learn how to approach correctly is with the Kickstarter Cheers Opener.

At a bar, you go in with a glass and smile and say, “Cheers! My names XYZ what’s yours?” Because you’re engaging their autopilot response to social etiquette you should be able to get over 50% of people cheersing you back.

If you can’t get at least 50% to cheers you back, that means something’s off your subcommunication, body language, facial expressions, energy and/or tonality. So you know to work on that.

It also gives you a high volume of social reference experience because bars are meant to be social environments.

I feel you bro I was literally in this position not too long ago. What the key is to really put yourself in uncomfortable situations and build your skill through practice. My best advice is trying the app Shawty in order to track you progress and become much better at approaching girls and now I can pretty much approach anyone anywhere. There is no perfect/correct way to approach a girl... that’s the good news. But the bad news is that you need a basic understanding of social cues, you have to see when a specific line or something you do makes the other person uncomfortable. Do you want to approach her while everyone is watching? Everyone says "YES! GO AHEAD!" but I say no! Maybe you don't care BUT if the girl is even slightly shy, all your chances are blown because of that silly bravery of yours. You put her in an awkward spot where her only escape is to make you leave by saying, "I have a boyfriend" even if she doesn't. Just use common sense, and you’ll always know if you're making the other person uncomfortable.

To build confidence, there are all sorts of small exercises, and it really depends on what level you’re at. Some guys just need a simple nudge, while others need to hit small milestones one by one.
